iPhone 3G & 3GS coming to Orange.....

Featured Replies

I just requested my PAC code from Vodafone today and was just going to head into the local o2 store tomorrow to check on availability of the 3GS. Think i'll hang on now and see what sort of prices they will be going for on Orange. The orange 3G network is a lot better than o2's and hopefully they'll maybe have some good deals for the launch.

I've registered my interest with Orange so will be updated when more is known.

The only thing putting me off orange is their tendency to tinker with the firmware and apps that come with a phone more so than any other operator i think. Although then again i don't know whether apple allow this or whether all iphones are exactly the same whichever network around the world they are on.

Cheers

Dave.

To be honest, i dont think the deals will be that much better.

From what i've read (on the internet so it must be true ), the iPhone isn't actually great for O2, most of the premium for the iPhone goes straight to Apple.

You dont see any Apple products cheap anywhere, and i dont see that changing anytime soon!

Still i reckon it will start a price war (well im hoping it will) so there may be some good deals to be had

To be honest, that can only be a good thing.

If the iPhone was cheaper, it would be whiping the floor with every other phone out there, and now its starting to get competition that can match it feature for feature, it needs to drop its price

I'm thinking more about the tarif prices or bundled mins/texts etc... being slightly better rather than the price of the phone.

Also had a call from Vodafone today regarding my PAC code and the chap mentioned that Vodafone would also be supplying the iphone 3G and 3GS from January next year.

Your PAC code is only valid for 30 days, and Orange dont move that quick!

I wouldnt expect any networks other than O2 to have them before Dec at the earliest so I've read. They're hanging on to milk the Christmas Market.

Orange also arent wonderful for offering great data deals, so dont expect an unlimited/unmonitored offering like O2 currently do.

O2 will also be imposing their own fair usage once they see their rivals offerings. Orange current fair usage is 500mb/month IIRC, and Voda and Tmobile 1.2gb/month. Seasoned Iphone owners will eat these very quickly and get stung royally for data charges.

And yes, Orange and Voda will both insist they can fiddle with the f/w so they can prevent VOIP use like they do with all other supporting devices.

I severely doubt Apple will let any carrier play with their f/w. Apple currently limit any VOIP apps to WiFi connection only, and that will stick I'm sure. But letting a 3rd party 'adjust' their software seems very unlikely for a company like Apple. Nowhere in Europe has a carrier-specific iPhone f/w that I know of, and they don't have any exclusive networks anymore.

If you're right, then users of their existing and future handset lineup will be very very mad!

Tmobile 1.2gb/month.

Not if you're on a G1 data plan... we get 3GB!

The way I look at it is that it can surely only be a good thing... take the iPhone monopoly away from O2. I agree that they probably won't have very competitive deals though. When I compared the plans they did for the Android phones they were pants compared to T-mobile.

I know, i'm just going to let it lapse before re-applying when the time comes..... If at all. I'm in no rush the old N95 8gb will keep me going till i decide which iphone provider i go for.

Orange should have stocks before christmas and as i said above Vodafone aren't even stocking it till 2010.

The current supply has enough issues just with O2 connection. It's going to be interesting the chrimbo as I don't think there are going to be many more in terms of overall numbers available. Supply of the 3GS is almost one in one out in a lot of stores.
