Replacing front arb bushes and link rods on Mk1 Octy vRS

Featured Replies

Hi people.

I am going to replace the front arb bushes and collars and the front arb link rods too within the next week or so. I want to stay standard for the sake of ride quality so my question is where's the best place for replacement parts?

Is it worth buying pattern parts or OE? I've come across an outfit called AVS where prices seem reasonable. Anyone know them?

Lastly, any tips for doing the job?

Cheers in advance

genuine bushes are only £4.46 each and the clamps £6 surely aftermarket ones arent much cheaper

Agree not much point not going genuine OEM as the price will be marginal.

Anti roll bar links maybe as these would be cheaper.

VWspares(AVS Sapres) is a good choice. You can also get these from GSF.

If you search the threads on here and technical sections you will find some guides as been done a few times..

Quite a easy job around 1 hours work all in.

the links are £21.07 each from the dealers so might be worth shopping round

Ordered links today at 9.95 plus vat from AVS.

Bushes 3.70 plus vat.

Hope to get job done this weekend.

Replaced my arb bushes, drop links and balljoints over the weekend. Car feels tighter, quieter and no knocking now.

The plastic sleeve on the arb drivers side had disintegrated so fitted bush with 17mm hole. Passenger side ok so fitted standard bush with 19mm hole.

Have not tried rocking rad yet but may do just to be sure.

how come you didnt take the sleave off the other side too mate and make them the same?

I dont have the sleaves on mine so dont know about them.

glad she is nice again mate

Removed both my sleeves and fitted the 17mm bushes too, and it's been fine for ages now.

I'd go with what Billy said, and do the same to the passenger side. It'll only come back to haunt you in the form of an annoying creaking noise!

we get the choice when we supply arb bushes, i always supply the smaller bush which does away with the sleeve, a new arb doesnt have these sleeves so you would need the smaller bush anyway

Well yes i did consider removing the sleeve but to be honest it was more or less perfect and i figured the other side with no sleeve and therefore bare arb would possibly corrode quicker and give grief sooner?

For the cost i would replace the whole arb if things go south in the future.

Happy days for the moment tho! Drivin' really good.

Jim;)
