Things got a bit glum late yesterday afternoon - just thought it was networks in this hole as when i got home things seemed okay.

Getting one of these at home soon thanks to work

I only ever use the ethernet connection in work. Anyone any idea what speed these are compared with broad band?

Depends who your provider is and what package you've gone for.

Broadband can be anywhere between 128kbs upto 2Mbs in the Uk.

In Sweden they have 8Mbs and Japan 12Mbs.

Between desks at work your Ethernet is likely to be 100Mbps William. How much bandwidth you have onto the internet is dependent on how much your employer pays for. It's not uncommon for a whole office to share 512kbps or 1Mbps internet connection. You probably have a proxy server to cut down on the actual traffic going in and out of the building. So it's quite possible to have less bandwidth at work than at home, given the number of people sharing it.

Internally, we have access to gigabit ethernet  but externally, we have 100Mbit links split between about 10 people so we should have about 10Mbps each, although it does depend on who else is using it at the time and how many machines they have! ;)

Chris

Edited: Your company takes internet access very seriously, don't they!

I'm in a building with around 100 people and we have a (IIRC) 2Mbps pipe...
