Who owns the car?

Featured Replies

This is semi related to Tom thread about company cars.

What proof is there that you own the Car?

because all the V5 is, is who the registered keeper is.

eg, My dads car is a company car but is registered in his name, So if he were to sell it, what proof is there that the Company owns it? and not his to sell.

^^ hope thats clear.

I'm pretty sure it would be registered with Experian etc who do the HPI checks.

There aren't many companies who will register the car in the end users name though.

The paperwork from the purchase of the vehicle (if the company bought it outright) shows their ownership.

indeed... I'm on my logbook, but black horse own my car until I've paid for it in April next year!

IIRC the maunfacturer actually owns the car (had a discusion in a pub with a mate who is a laywer) we only buy the right to be a keeper of the vehicle but i may be wrong

The owner is the person or company that has the purchase docs.

The Logbook specifically states the keepers name only.

Perhaps the logbook should show the owners name and keepers name for clarity as when you buy a car you can never be sure who the owner is, at the moment a scribbled receipt is sometimes the only proof you have.
