Park assist system

Featured Replies

My Superb Elegance 170cr has the Park Assist System fitted...

I have noticed that the same system fitted to the YETI also allows you to not only park in reverse but also going forwards.

I contacted Skoda Uk via an E-Mail to receive a call back ,, msg left on home answer phone replying to my question..

I asked if the system in the Superb could be upgraded to do the same ??... the reply was no it will only ever complete the reverse parking,,, i think the reply did not answer my full question.

I have e-mailed Skoda direct and await the answer !!

I'm not tech minded but to my way of thinking the system uses the sam Park Assist sensors and max dot system in the car... so a soft ware upgrade should do the trick ,,, or am i missing the point.

Anyway i will relay the reply when i get one :)

The new estate superb does it also, probably a new electronic box required and all Superb models will include this in future.

my superb is being built next week. My dealer told me that the the park assist reverses, and tells you when to select 1st gear, and then the park assist straightens it up.

The Park Assist in my Superb II 170CR DSG notifies me of a suitable parking space after it has passed it. It then reverses into it and - upon engaging forward gear - straightens itself up as it moves forward.

If it needs to assess the space by "measuring" its length' date=' then I fail to see how it can [b']drive into[/b] a parallel parking space, unless it can sense it from considerably further away than currently. Is that the case with the Yeti and Combi?

BTW - driving into a parking space is not the best, quickest or most effective way to park parallel to the kerb, unless the space is nearly twice the car length - then what do you need assistance for anyway?

My parking assist is VERY flaky and rarely works properly ie doesnt notice spaces it could easily get into

Mine ignores large spaces too, Rich, but isn't that what it's supposed to do?

What I mean is, if the space can easily be got into, why do you need the Park Assist? It's got me into several spaces that I wouldn't necessarily have tried myself and - although it's a bit heart-stopping as it swings the front nearside into the space - it's always worked brilliantly for me. :)

I had one on loan but couldn't get it to work at all.

Any new Superb ordered with Park assist now will have Park Assist 1.5 which completes the parking with as many forward and reverse moves as it takes to get you parked correctly. It's gone up in price though.

No i dont think its meant to ignore large spaces , its not a feature but a failure or perhaps more a foible of the system , sometimes it will find a large space and sometimes it wont , the option is handy for the extra sensors but i havent found it to work reliably enough to be useful

My belief (which I can't evidentially substantiate) is that the sensors are set to identify the minimum gap required for the system (i.e., 1 metre longer than the car) and will also, therefore, cut off once the measured space exceeds a certain length. If this were not so - and the space size was infinite - what would it line up the rear of the car with?

We'll probably continue not to agree on this, but surely the dealer ought to be taking a look if it's that unreliable? Mine has always worked brilliantly, as did the car I tested. I agree that the front sensors are the main benefit, but I just couldn't have a tool that I'd paid for not working properly. :)

I have exactly the same problems as Richf, in the beginning it used to work approx 75% of the time..and now in the same sort of circumstances it only works less than 25% of the times I turn it on..which I'm doing more of a test of the system than a need for it to work.

It's frustrating but I'll just have it looked at when it goes in for its first service at 30k KM

I`ve had my car for 9 months now, and I have only used this system once, just to test it. So I think that this tells how much I appreciate this feature in a car....:orb_toung

Its a great feature, but more of a gimmick than anything truly useful imho.

When I had a play in a Superb with Park Assist, it worked about 19 times out of 20, and the distance it parked from the kerb seemed to rely completely on how far the car behind had parked from the kerb - so if that car was fairly close to the kerb and quite a bit narrower than the Superb its quite easy to kerb the wheels.

If that was the case then it would never work rather than work sometimes and other times not

Hi guys,

I have Park assist and could swear that mine works less often these days...I suspect it is because I tend to try to use it too quickly. I live on a busy road and find the system is too slow to be useful all the time. Normally have a 5 second gap to quickly park. System disengages above 4mph!

The system is more than worth having though just to see the look on friends faces when I show them it working.

With regard to the large space issue...the car lines itself up on the car that will be in front of it when parked...a large space will not be recognised until the car comes along side a car at the end of said space. After driving a metre or so past the car it will identify the space...the thing I always forget is to indicate to the right when showing it off on a space on the right side of the road...it's not idiot proof :giggle:

Hope this explains things...let me know if anyone gets anywhere with upgrading the Park Assist system...I suspect it just gets the car into tighter spaces by going forwards/backwards more than once???

Jury's out on this with me, a new toy, but what happens when a cpu chip decides it's had enough, I wait with baited breath to see the 1st thread about how....I was going backwards slowly, when all of a sudden the car launched off like a rocket and pushed the 6 police cars parked behind me into the river........oooooh dear ;-?

tried this on a golf mk6 I had for a couple of weeks, i found unless you litterally crawled past the parking spot it wouldnt see it. only problem is, I wouldnt trust it in a tight spot which is where it would be usefull

I've got this on mine and in the month I've had the car I've not used it once. I did try and test it the other night, but it never saw the space I was aiming at and then someone came up behind so I just drove off.

I've not gone for it. The superb is big, if I can find a spot that I think I can get into I'll try. I'm also wary of getting stuck should those around change and park that bit closer.

Found this though when researching it: http://revver.com/video/120980/self-parking-lego-car/

I have a Superb Elegance 2.0 CR 170hp with DGS and Park Assist.

When I previously used the Park Assist it first asked me to but reverse gear on when it found a suitable space for the car and after reversing to the space it asked me to put drive on and go forward.

The forward thing didn't happen before and I guess it came when my car was in the shop for DSG and some other updates were done - or I didn't notice the feature before since I've only used the assist a few times.
