Car wobbling and knocking when braking?

Featured Replies

2003 fabia 1.9 SDI

wobbles forward and backwards under braking/ acceleration.

Thud from the engine bay when stopping or changing gear.

Any ideas? Or similar past problems?

almost certainly the console bushes the front wishbones mount into will be split

:iagree:sounds like the console bushes, although it is possible that it is engine mounting(s).

If it is the console bushes there is a DIY guide for fitting stiffer Seat Cupra ones here. The pics there will also give you a good idea where they are.

Sent it into the garage today, see what they say. Might be time for a new car.

Put it into get looked at this morning, they phoned and said it was the bushes, they replaced them 18 months ago.

Suggested the Cupra bushes, garage said they would look into it.

Needs to be fixed regardless, can't sell it like that.

I use the SDI for towing lessons as the vRS can't legally be used for towing. I should trade the 2 fabia's in for a better towing car.

My mother uses the SDI as a run around when its not being used for tuition, think she may be causing the damage by changing down through the gears rather than using the brake to slow down. She let slip that her old 205 had to have the bushes replaced every 6 months! Feel like invoicing the muppet who taught her to drive, using the gears to brake! Funnily enough her automatic clio never suffered from this fault.
