drilled discs

Featured Replies

not had any experience of them , and personally wouldn't use drilled/grooved discs

but its a reasonable price for what you are getting, so its up to you

Seems expensive, drilled discs often crack around the holes and grooves while good for clearing glaze on a pad, will increase wear rate on the pads.

The other thing is have the been grooved, drilled and then heat treated or are they normal discs worked on afterwards. The latter is bad.

You can get grooved discs for not much more than that from a good supplier.

As for that suppliers comment that holes get rid of heat, well that is just rubbish. The metal in a disc acts as a big heatsink, so if you drill some of that out then it isn't going to work as well as a heat sink. It's the vented discs that have vanes inside to cause forced air cooling and get rid of heat.

The OEM front discs are vented on a VRS. The rear brakes do so little work they usually rust before they wear out, so it's not worth doing anything at that end IMHO.

If you want uprasted discs then Grooved and dimpled one are the way to go. EBC make them called Turbo Grooved Discs (TGDs). The main problem with drilled discs are, as mentioned above, are it's liable to crack around the holes, too many and/or wide grooves can make them very noisy under hard braking. This is why EBC make dimpled ones with 3 or 5 narrow grooves. Of course when fitted you should put a decent set of pads on them eg Ferodo or Mintex.

P.S. I have NO association with EBC, but just use their stuff.

mis-typed, missed the no.

I've used ATE Power Disc discs twice and the service life of them and the pads were almost as long as the non grooved items. They do glaze bust better and shift water of the swept area, so braking is more consistant over their service life. A plus, if you can call it that, for the ATE ones is that when the grooves disappear, the discs are at their service thickness limit - that might be handy if you are lazy or non-technical!?!

I have just recently bought these myself and I must admit I was a bit unsure at first as they were quite cheap for the full set up.

The quality of the discs are excellent and I have started to give them a bit of stick after a few hundred miles of bedding in and the bite of the brakes now is excellent, much better than I imagined they would be

I know they will eventually crack round the drilled holes and the pads will probably wear quicker but for what they cost compared to brand named brakes like EBC I would deffinatly recommend them

I can send you some pics of them on the car if you like ?

I have similar discs on mine, with Redstuff pads...

No issues or excess noise, other than the pads bedding in for a few hundred miles :)

Must agree with Jim, I have standard size Grooved and Dimpled disc's on my Fabai Vrs, Zero 60 disc's and Tarox Strada Pads. Vast Improvement. Bought them from Awesome.

Yes discs and pads, the exact same set in the link you posted

No noise under breaking

I will get some pics soon :D

Get the 312's upgrade then oem discs :)

Hi, I bought these for my VRS and ended up changing them 4 months later because they had warped on the front. My mistake. Buy cheap, buy twice!

Also the backs are still on there and they have rusted like mad. Never seen a pair of disc like them.

My advice stay away. Get some ATE brakes from EuroCarParts they are genuine quality. Otherwise treat yourself to some EBC or Black diamonds.

Cheers,

Gaz

i am looking into getting some front and rear drilled and grooved discs for my fabia vrs. on the sales page it say fabia vrs discs are 288mm on the front and 232mm on the back. however when looking at a spec sheet for a fabia vrs it says rears are 239mm which is correct?

The standard front discs are 288mm dia (25mm thick) and rear should be 233 or 232mm in diameter (9mm thick).
