Hard ride in FL Estate

Featured Replies

I have just got my new FL Octavia 1.4TSI DSG Elegance Estate and think the ride is very hard. Especially on the M25 concrete section between J9 and J11. I am literally bouncing up and down on my seat!

Had a quick look at the tyre pressue. About 2.2 bars so not far off.

But the rear shocks have a yellow plastic cover that is visible from the wheel arch. Is it some kind of transport block. Otherwise why would it be yellow???

That does sound like it's not right.

Can you take a photo of the yellow object?

If it's like this shown >> here << ...your dealer needs shooting!!

Indeed.

Tell them you've just crashed and then found the transport blocks in :)

Thanks for the replies.

I'm glad to say it doesn't look like that! It is on the damper not on the spring. Looking at it again it looks like a protective sleeve and is made of yellow rubber. Maybe different suspensions have a different colour? Also, it won't be yellow for long.

Anyone else find the Elegance Estate a hard ride? Concrete M25 is quite unpleasant but didn't notice that much in my old Focus.

Only had the car a few days so maybe it will soften up a bit?

I would definitely talk to the dealer, possibly talk about reimburs you for jeopardizing you life in that way. ;)

I've noticed the suspension in my 1.4 Elegance Hatchback is a harder ride than what I'm used to. I put it down to the dampers being firmer which might change over time or perhaps theyare meant to be like this. I've not noticed any yellow bits but I've not had a proper look at the suspension yet.

What car did you come from? And the make of tyeris on the Skoda? If transport blocks not in

James

This doesn't sound right to me.

I've just got an Elegance Estate 2.0 TDI DSG estate 2 weeks ago and the ride is perfectly OK. This is on the standard wheels.

And I've got no yellow bits on the suspension (I've just been outside and looked). The front springs are painted black with 4 dots of coloured piant on them - pink, orange and two blue. There is a large rubber bellows (also black) running through the centre of the spring to protect the shock absorber.

Trip to the dealer required?

Whether it's got yellow bits on it or not may depend on the make of shock absorber that's been fitted.

I've looked at mine and it does have a bright yellow protective shroud right at the top of the rear dampers similar to the yellow ones shown in this photo :

Could It be the "bad road"/heavy duty springs on your car. Write down the codes from the manual and put it in the "code" reader and see what comes out.

They're not 'protective shrouds', they are bump stops. Very unlikey to have any impact on ride quality unless you're driving most of the time fully loaded...

Thanks for the replies. I am really pleased with the car, and don't mind the harder ride most of the time. I suppose my 7 year old focus was getting a bit soft. But when we test drove a FL estate I thought that it was a fairly smooth, softish ride.

How does everyone else find concrete roads such as M25 J9 - J11? I do feel like I am bouncing around in my seat!

We have a long trip coming up this weekend and I will ask my passengers what they think! But maybe their added weight will dampen it out.

I do that road quite a lot when I go to see my folks back in Essex and have done it 4 times now in my pre FL Octy and the wifes vRS

My Octy has sports suspension and 17" alloys as well so is my firmer than my old Toledo with slightly knackered dampers and 15" alloys but rides over it perfectly well with out a bouncy sensation.

The vRS can be a bit disjointed by the expansion joints and in the rutted outer lane but again rides perfectly smoothly and very comfortably.

Have you got it back to the dealers to get it checked?

I agree with Nathanio - get it checked out by a dealer.

The stretch of road you describe is in my neck of the weeds and I don't experience what you describe. My estate is on 16 inch wheels with Bridgestone tyres.

Transport blocks removed? Did you order sports suspension/17" upgrade?

ambient hatchback, over here in india we get ambient, elegance & l&k.

32 is what's on the filler cap.

true but someone reported center premature wear with that pressure especially when u drive alone, so i use 30F 30R & still i feel the ride is firmer on the new FL compare to pre-FL, i feel skoda stiffened the springs abit which results to abit of a harsher ride then the pre fl..

Our Octy, 2.0 FSI elegance hatch 225/45/17, fronts survived until 30k with even wear and always used 32psi all round. Rears still going! Michelin Pilot Primacy's BTW.

thats amazing mileage from the tyres u got but i feel 32psi is abit too much if only one person is in the car most the time, i feel the rear at 32psi is very firm as there is not much weight in the back, the front tires have the engine weight but the rear just bounce around & is harsh, so feel 30psi is a good balance if max 2 people are in the car, in case there are 4 people in the car then 32psi will be perfect, this is what i feel btw do u drive alone or with howmany passengers mostly? thanks..

Usually only one person in ours 90% of the time.

guess you have better roads to drive on, overhere in india the roads are terrible, alot of bumps & potholes, so must be giving the octavia suspension a nice workout :-) where you from?
