Amazing performer...1.4TDI 80 PD!!

Featured Replies

Yes Stormchaser...they get much much quieter and very smooth as the miles go on. The problem with diesels when new is the engines are very tight indeed. Unlike petrol engines, they produce huge amounts of friction in the bores and this causes a harsh, rattley loud combustion process. Although some diesels are quieter than the 1.4TDI this process is normal for virtually all diesels. By 10k they sound wonderful, having loosened up quite well by then. Mine is now not much louder than the last very quiet petrol engined car I owned when on the move. And at speeds above 30mph there is no difference at all between my diesel and prevoiusly owned petrol cars. And boy...does it go, I loooove my mpg! As a big biker rider, I'd say I'm paying the car a big compliment as I'm not a car person really. There's just something about Skoda PD engines that's just brilliant.

You mean VAG PD engines of course ;)

Yep!

Funny reading this

i had a similar situation on the M74 Once in my 1.4TDI PD80 , Mines mapped up to somewhere around 110-115bhp by CustomCode

in 5th gear the 70-100 pull is really good!

Andrew, I bet she really travels!

Crikey 110bhp  How long has she been mapped for andrew? She feeling ok?

I think this will be the next thing on my shopping list.

I've had my Fabia 1.4tdi estate for 6 months. I needed a car that was small enough to fit in my garage but was able to carry my wife's wheelchair or mobility scooter without folding the back seats.

The engine is noisy when accelerating but it's a purposeful noise that I can live with. When cruising it's really fairly quiet. The amount of torque produced makes it a relaxing car to drive - it never seems to be working very hard. I don't overtake very much these days but if I need to get past a tractor or a milk float the kick of torque is surprising for an economy car.

I 'm getting about 60 mpg on cross country runs and the overall mpg (3000 miles) is 50.1 but this includes a lot of short run town use.

The ride on faster roads seems ok but on poor town roads it can be a bit boneshaking. It's a small car built to take loads so I guess that the suspension has to be a compromise.

Overall it's a car that has character that does the job it's designed to do and does it well.

Been mapped around 2 years now , clutch is on way out now but its because when i first had it i really gave it some stick , first TDI n all that , For a 3 cylinder Diesel it goes really well ,but against standard 110bhp 4 cylinders it struggles , i wud think it should be able to atleast compete against the 100bhp 1.9TDI's if not pull ahead abit

Haha Sparky i was worried i wouldnt make it off the line

Unfortunetly i got spanked by everything i went against and my times where slower than a 110bhp standard golf

Heres the videos

To be fair, your times could be slower because of the driver, not the machine...

The car gave everything it could down the strip

Obviously me being heavier than the average weight isnt going to help tho , more weight to drag down the strip:rofl: so yes im 100% sure if some one lighter like yourself went down you could probaby hit 17's

The 1.4 TDI is a good car for the avergage motorway spin , going to work etc etc but obviously wasnt built for tuning and doing strip runs with.
