Just did a quick experiment.

Logged in Elephant.co.uk to get a quote even though I don't need cover until next year.

Filled out my details, then came the dreaded question - Accidents. Well must last car was written off by a plonker this year who didn't fix his back bumper onto his car properly. This was a non fault accident but I noticed no selection for non fault (Made me think) !

Then I procedeed to carry on the quote. Finally got a quote for

So I also placed my wife on the sample policy and it came down from

Have to be honest and say Elephant have been excellent with me after my accident.

Car was inspected morning after the accident and was at the repair shop within 48 hours.

They told me when they had asked the third party's insurer for payment and then informed me my no claims was unaffected.

THey got me a solicitor too.

Only bugger is I have to pay them to do this for me.

Can't wait till my renewal........NOT!

I wanna piece of that next year then..

But I wonder hopw much it would of gone down if you hadn't had that accident ?

I wonder if you tell them it is a non fault on the phone and it remains uneffected then ?

I mean I have to pay them to insure me :D

Wait until Dec 11th when my renewal with LV comes up... :grumpy: However, any penalty will be my fault so can't grumble too much... I may not try and write off my car 3 weeks into the policy this time.

Best time to do it mind Jason...it's almost over 12 months ago, might be worth seeing of you can push renewal out...I asked LV for quotes based on dates in the future, found waiting a month saved me a hundred pounds...I typically insured at August, now Mid Sep after my birthday.

Sign up for your insurance about 2 days before the end of the month. It won't start until the date you have specified, but you will get it cheaper because the sales team are trying to meet their monthly targets and are very keen. ;)

But in saying that, i live in Northern Ireland, 28 yrs old, 6 yrs no claims, driving for 11 yrs, no claims or convictions and the best i can get is

I cant understand why insurance should go down by sticking your wife on your policy. By definition, if one more person is driving it, then that car is more likely to be in an accident than if a single person is driving it, regardless of what anyone thinks about Men vs Women drivers. As far as I'm concerned, two drivers = 2x the risk of a single driver.

Don't be daft only 1 person can drive at a time, and as the wife is likely to have an accident than the husband if he is forced to drive by being the only insured person, then it is right that the insurance should be cheaper.

By definition, if one more person is driving it, then that car is more likely to be in an accident than if a single person is driving it,

If we assume the length of time the car is being driven is x then with one driver, the ratio is 1:x - with two drivers, the ratio drops to 2:x.

So if we assume an equal division in driving time, for half the time a lower risk driver is going to be in the car, hence the risk overall will be decreased.

Also, when you get back in the car after the missus has been driving it, there's very little damage can be done in a car with a worn clutch and an empty petrol tank... :sofahide:

Alright steve. Due to the driver not being insured its now getting passed on to the Men in Black http://www.mib.org.uk/index.asp.

I know the feeling but some of the gits on this forum think it is quite alright for insurance companies to screw you just because you live in N.Ireland. As far as I am concerned it is pure discrimination and therefore should be illegal.

Its a fact that there a higher rate of claims for cars in NI , just as there are higher rates of claims from young male drivers etc.

Why is it fine to charge one of these groups more , and not the others?
