Servicing prices

With the old VRS aproaching 9000 miles I thought I would ring around and get some quotes for the 10,000 mile first service. That was where the fun started.

Dealer 1 quotes

Pretty sure most dealers can set their own labour rates, which would account for some of the spread. The cheaper ones are, quite possibly, skimping on the inspection time. The expensive ones are probably being a bit too thorough!

Rob.

Or the more expensive dealers spend the same amount of time inspecting them, but are just greedy f*ckers?

Get yourself to an independent garage. Apart from warranty work there is absolutely no reason to visit a main dealer that you wouldn't trust with your wallet.

What it probably boils down to is does the dealer know what service you want/need?

If your car is less than a year old all it requires is a lube service which is an oil and filter change, this has a labour time of 0.5 hours.

If you car has reached a year old and not covered 10,000 miles thenit requires an annual service which is more extensive, checking wheels and tyres, lubricating hinges and what have you. The labour time for this is around 1.6 hours.

The idea behind this is the car that does more mileage will be coming in more often so it will be in for its 20k service (which is the same as an annual + a pollen filter) soon enough anyway.

What some dealers do if you do not specify what service you want they will just do the more expensive annual, some people notice, some dont.

Ive seen some Felicia's that are six years ol and had nothing but annual services as they havent even got to 40,000 miles. by which time the spark plugs are completely knackered and they wonder why it missfires...lol.

The quotes ended up as follows :-

Hmmmm, Clock Garage!

My vRS came from them via Tins with the service interval set at fixed 10K. When I enquired if it could be changed to variable they said that it couldn't as the 'high performance' vRS's need to be serviced every 10K

I then presented them with information to the contrary from VAG and they suddenly said they could but at a cost of
