Updated vRS Brochure - what is XDS?

Featured Replies

Updated brochure on Skoda website states vRS now has 'XDS' - does anybody know what this is - is it a pseudo limited slip diff?

Thanks (guess I should have searched for 'XDS' rather than 'xds':O)

Not case sensitive ;)

Electric Diff.

hmm this is interesting, im sure I read in a review some where that breifly compared the new vRS with the new GTi and mentioned the vRS not having XDS

Back of the on-line brochure in the Technical Glossary it states:

"XDS: The XDS system gives the vRS better agility

and traction when cornering, and allows for more

accurate steering."

Personally thought it had something to do with the new ESP systems being introduced.

The following is taken from the VW Golf GTi/GTD site and tells you how it works:rotz:

IMO not very revealing into how it actually works. Only applies to petrol GTi and not diesel GTD

What is XDS? Featured for the first time on the new Golf GTI, XDS is an advanced electronic differential lock linked to a sophisticated Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) system, designed to maximise traction and improve responses. How does it work? XDS - Extended XDS - is an extension of the established EDS function. In moments of fast cornering it provides pressure on the inside wheel to prevent wheel spinning. The result is better traction and a reduction of any tendency to understeer. What's the result? You'll experience a more agile, precise and calm driving performance with better traction out of bends. In other words, you can enjoy sporty driving in your new GTI, knowing you have a reassuringly higher level of safety
