Cheers for all the feedback fellas.

Looked into my policy a bit deeper, and it seems there's a few things that aren't right.

Just waiting on them calling back.

If it comes to it, i know someone selling a 54 plate Corsa Sxi 1.3 CDTI with 35k

Not in anyway exciting, but should be cheap to run and last a good few years before it gives up.

Would you have another furby vrs?

I'm sure someone in the wanted section was after a swap for an Octy VRS

Cheers

I would take one in a minute.

I cant recall seeing one in the wanted section, unless it's very recent.

I'll take a look.

Yes, it's just recently come up.

54 plate black Furby VRS with a few choice mods

Sounds like you could do each other a favour

Best of luck mate

Regards

Damian

Wouldn't be the first time he's swapped an Octy for a Furby either. Groundhog Day? :P

Hmm, yeah, could be a case of that ! :D

Dont like to break a habit :D

I've PM'd him, see if anything comes of it.

I'm not sure a furby will be good for your insurance either as they are more than the octy on quotes for me.

As for the TDCI, the relations and people we know with them who have not popped DMFs must have the only ones who have not then. On the theme of DMF's the the TDI's seem to like say about 6 every 60k IME and usually at least 1 or two by then.

Regardless of that debate, my point still stands that VAG = expensive insurance.

For me, the Fabia always comes out cheaper on quotes

I agree completely about the insurance sentiments Mark - Passat was quite dear IIRC, several groups higher than equivalent Mondeo IIRC.

Oh dear Johnny - sorry to hear about this, what a pain - and all because of some mindless vandalism

There was a fairly low mile 54-plate Furby on sale in black with OEM xenons when I last checked the classifieds. Seemed he wanted not much for it? Is that the one you're thinking of? I'd definitely consider that in your position - in fact that's what made me go for the 2nd Fabia I had, because Mk1 vRSes were too pricey for me to insure at the time! Go with what you know - even if it's in the same colour as before; I've been there too! ;)

And the Fabia vRS insurance will always be less in my experience; you're playing Group 9 against 14 for a kick-off!

Best of luck with it all mate. You tried all the specialists I take it? A-Plan/Brentace/AF/CK/Sky?

Steve

All I would say is get a quote for the car before you buy anything.

Tom's 306 would have done you proud for a couple of years I think and they don't half handle well even if the power isn't huge. Nice low insurance group (5 for the XUDt and I guess similar for the HDI) and cheap to insure too.

Not sure if they are still so cheap due to boy racers mind :(

Yeah, insurance was dirt cheap for me, group 5 from memory, might be a group 6. Finding a good one might take some time (assuming mine goes on Saturday :P), but they are a good car.

Looking at your sig though you do have a fair few mods, all of which I assume are declared? With most 'normal' insurers (your Direct Lines of this world) these sorts of things make your insurance rocket. Can you not revert back to standard at all?

Aside from this though I've found the VAG's are quite dear to insure on the whole. Cheap to insure we're Peugeots and Fords (epecially the 306 as mentioned above - even the HDI's are only a group 5 or something - the wife had one of these until recently). Vauxhalls were also the number one victims of vandalism and theft at one point so they were quite high. Not sure how they fair nowadays though.

I dont have most of the parts to put it back to standard. :(

All mods are declared, which doesn't help matters i guess.

Goodness, that is quite a list.

I guess you could put the parts up for sale in a Price + OEM part in exchange way?

That little list you have however would add a couple of hundred to my policy.

It's why I'm keeping the Octy standard for now.....wait till the renewal and the wifes claim has an effect on the premium, then we'll see about a remap.

If you want to keep the car though and make it cheaper, try to remove some of those mods, specifically power related ones for definite as I found they had the biggest impact on my last policy. I could do anything I wanted to the suspension but as soon as I mentioned more power their interest in my wallet increased.

It didn't make a huge difference to my policy to be honest.

I dont have the time, space or a ability to remove/replace most of the parts on the car.

So selling, exhanging, paying someone to swap parts, make it a lot of effort for not a little benefit IMO anyway.

I still have the exhaust and you could put the panel filter on, may help a little. You would get £250 or more for the stainless Would be a shame to sell the car.

Guess i should've done my homework before buying, but i really didn't expect it to go up this much !!

Dont think i even paid that much for my Cossie, and i was only 23 when i had that, 10 years on and i'm having to pay more ! :thumbdwn:

Mods aside, I think you'll find much higher quotes as a result of the manner in which your last car was written off. IIRC quite a number in your area were attacked this way? Which would have helped load up the post code.

If you try a quote without the claim as a test, bets are you'll see a dramatic drop in prices. You'll similarly see quite a hike with whatever you choose to drive and insure.

It's only because of the claim that i'm getting the high quotes, as i've had a Mk1 before with practically the same mods, and insurance was cheap.

Fabia is a no go at the moment, so just need to see what happens.

Just a thought, do you have a garage?

If so clean all the junk out and see what the quote would be like if your car is in the garage. Since it would be a lot less likely to have a paint stripper attack there, then I guess that might bring it down a lot.

I've got a garage, but typically, the house is fairly new, and the garages are pretty small as far as width goes so i'd get the Octy in, but i'd be sleeping in it, as you cant get the doors open, my neigbour pushes his car in and out every morning !!

The Fabia just managed to fit in it. :(

Johnny,

Have a nice Fabia 2.0 for sale, cheap to run and insure, click the linky in my sig,

Johnny,

Have a nice Fabia 2.0 for sale, cheap to run and insure, click the linky in my sig,

Thats very nice indeed.

But if were buying anything else, i'd need to shift the Octavia first.

Will be buying another car for SWMBO in November/December, so unless you fancy my Octavia, i'd have no way of taking the Fabia.

But thanks. :)

Hope you get something sorted,

Sorry don't need an Oct'y
