What to do...car change.

Featured Replies

I'd still get a quote on the keeping it in the garage, as it might well be worth the effort of pushing it in/out if the saving is large enough.

Also worth nothing you can put some rubber strips down the side so you can get out without damaging the doors.

I can imagine it's extremely frustrating as I'm pretty certain the uninsured scum that hit me years ago and drove off will have had no come back either :(

It's just not practical doing that every morning.

Getting daughter ready to leave, pushing a car out the garage, and not having to leave her in the house etc while i do it all just isn't worth it.

But i see where you're coming from. :)

Failing that can you have the garage extended for less than reduction in insurance and the loss when you sold the car :P

In all seriousness though, I see where you're coming from and it's just a shame that scum do things to people and get away scot free while we all end up paying for years.

Yeah, it's a real pain.

If i'd had a bump and it was my fault, i'd at least accept it ! :(

Will keep you all updated. ;)

Well a bit more development,

Spoken to my previous insurers, and they've agreed to up my NCB to 3 years. And mark it as a non fault claim, as it was down as my fault (i dont think so).

Thats helping the quotes straight away. :)

However, i've been offered a deal with a derv, insurance pretty much the same, so i'm in talks just now. :)

Whats the derv in question?

Sounds like progress though. :)

Yeah, a bit better than it was a few days ago at least.

02 330d Sport :)

Nothing concrete yet though, so not holding my breath.

The fact that the insurance on that is pretty much the same says a lot about the cost to insure a skoda IMHO.

Yep ! I was quite surprised.

But now that the insurers are playing a better game, i'd be happy keeping the Octavia now.

Although if it turned out that the 330 was an option, i'd take it.

330d? Damn right if its an option take it! Although there is the potential for massive repair bills, and mpg is probably similar to the Octy

Pleased to hear you're making progress

Even though that would be the 184bhp 5-speed version, the 330d would be a nice choice :)

I've considered them in the past, but wanted the revised facelift with the 204bhp 6spd. But as Tom says, potential repair/maintenance bills did put me off, although Warranty Direct came up with some good options to soften any nasty surprises!

The facelift 204bhp would be nice, but they come with a premium ! :(

Holding their money very well at the moment.

I'll see what happens, before the scare with the insurance, i was more than happy with the Octy, so i wont be gutted to keep it or anything like that.

I'd just be doing my next step in modding it as i've got a few bits here to go on etc. :)

Either version with a remap make quite interesting machines and the ride/balance/steering I like a lot :)

I personally had a few issues that it might be a bit obvious on the road, which I don't like! Stealth being the way forward ;)

Hope you get everything sorted mate...

Steve

Pretty sure if its a comparible price to the Octy, then its not going to have the mileage that Warrenty Direct et.al. are going to want to touch ;) Lovely cars though for sure, but on balance unless you get some kind of offer you can't refuse, I think keeping the Octy is your best bet mate.

Absolutely. If it's like for like on the Octy value then it'll have done a few miles.

If the insurance side can be settled, then I'd definitely keep the Octy Johnny.

Yeah, the BM has 102k on the clock at the moment, so not too bad compared to some on the market.

I've got an R32 rack here for the Octy, next steps planned are RARB, ditch the FSD/H&R combo and go Coilies, and custom map from Ben. :)

That's not bad going for the Beemer to be fair, hardly any miles at all. Quite common to see 330d's with north of 150k on the 'Trader.

That sounds like a nice little list of mods there Johnny - you know what to do :cool:

Steve

Yep, suprised to hear its that low tbh! I looked at one with well over 200k a few years ago, and it was in sound condition.

Keep the Octy then! Sounds like you aren't as skint as you make out

I already had the rack (perk of my job)

The coilies would be funded by selling the FSD/H&R

So would just need to save for the rest, they'd be long term mods, not something i'll be doing in the next 2-3 months. :)

You don't have to justify to Tom your car spending plans! :D

Otherwise we'll just ask him for his car accounting over the past few years :P

Very true, and i dont think Toms got a spare 2 days to add it all up :D

:( You win.

Hopefully mine will be nice and stable for the next 3 years at least!

Anyway, I'm sure I did that exercise on here not that long ago, and it transpired I was better off than if I'd bought an Octy vRS brand new and kept it standard :) :P

Only a fool would do that ! :D

What, buy a new one - or keep it standard? :D

Personally I'd go with the BMW because it will save you a good amount in fuel, it will hold value better than the octy and I get the feeling the MK I VRS will be losing it's value quite hard in the not too distant future.
