Anything likely to break with a remap?

Featured Replies

I will be ordering a new vRS in the next couple of weeks and I guess it is pretty likely I'll get it remapped - either AmD (as they are local) or revo (I like the idea of switching it off for a trip to the dealer).

I understand that this will invalidate parts of my warrantee so is anyone noticing things like clutch and gear box issues with the extra power and tourque. Obviously these parts were only designed for 130bhp so can they really cope with 180bhp+?

Also can I get a remap straight away or do I have get some miles under my belt first?

Lots of people with remapped Furbys so one will no doubt be along shortly. No clutch/gearbox probs on Furbys yet AFAIK.

Usual recommendation is to finish running-in before remap.

Depends how you drive really :)

The clutch is the weakest reliability link when remapped, but if your sensible with the car it shouldnt cause you any problems :)

other "weaknesses" would be the standard brakes and suspension will struggle to cope.

My MAF failed after my remap, but I can't necessairly point blame in that direction. It could have been just a tired one that gave up the ghost.... New one is perfectly fine though.

Don't people recommend doing at least 10k miles before getting a remap, just so everything is nicely loosened up and run in?

I think some peeps have almost literally driven from the showroom to the tuner, but personally 3k or 4k is a good time to let the engine bed in a bit. ;) Or in my case about 40k. :D

My friend *cough* ;) is gettin his tuned in december by that time it will most likey have about 12k on the clock, nicely bed in I say

My friend will be waiting till about 6000 miles ;)

where do i get one of these 'friends' ???

:)

My friend had his done at 3k. Now done 22k and no side affects at all. :D

My friend had alot of work done at AmD, in fact he did alot of it himself when he worked there. Hes been running thier stage 4 conversion and suspension and brake mods for around 15,000 miles now, he enjoys his car alot I think.

:)

Funny how we all have 'friends' running modified Fabia's.

God help you if something major goes wrong though, bye bye warranty ;)

I think in this particular instance, the best way out would probably be a jerry can full of petrol, an empty field, and a lighter :)

My friend is well aware of this but has faith in the skoda reliablity! I do think though that he is ever hopeful that questions will not be asked. Like I said this is a friend honest :D
