OEM headlight question?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Ignoring the legality of this question for a few minutes. I've done a little searching over the forum but couldnt find the answer to this.

If you have a Mk1 Fabia (namely a vrs) would it technically be possible to fit the entire xenon oem headlight unit? Obviously you'd not have the auto levelling or the washer but as a technical exercise is it possible? Did the units come with the ballast packs? and what kind of price are they? For the record im not actually thinking of doing this, im just surprised no one has tried it (or they have and i just can't find it).

Ben

Yes they'd physically fit, Brand new units are somewhere between £400-£500 each. And they come complete with bulbs, Capsules and ballasts.

Has anyone on here actually fitted one as a replacement to halogens?

I'm sure people on here have put HIDs onto their cars, I know that it is quite common on the SEAT Cupra forum to retro fit them. I think they are bought either from fleBay or HIDs4you (or something like that).

Slightly off topic, is it easy to change the headlight bulbs (halogen to halogen) on the fabia?

Should be boot off, clip out etc.... Look in the manual.

Don't think anyone has gone out of their way to fit OEM xenon units retrospectively because of the huge cost (£1200 +) if you factor in Washers and levelling.

Fitting HIDS to the regular reflector headlamps has had little sucess as there is a lot of spread and the result is usually downright offensive to other road users.

Yes, very easy, if slightly fiddly....

There is a 'how to' in the technical section, but you just need to take the plastic cover off the back off the headlight unit, unclip the bulb and open the wire frame that secures it in place.

I changed mine yesterday in less than 5 minutes.

Thanks guys,

Will attempt it when then bulbs arrive (gonna be late due to the mail i guess). I didnt wanna use HID's as there is a guy in my town with a VRS thats fitted HID's, the muppet blinds everyone he passes.

No.

Well ive replaced all three bulbs in each light (sides/low and main). The mains were a pain to get to sit properly, the sides and the lows were a 30 second jobbie. Much more light out of them now. I did notice that the drivers side door light has gone out so its booked into skoda to get that sorted.
