Fabia VRS Pink Coolant Renewal Period??

Featured Replies

Hello One and All,

My Fabia VRS is reaching it's 4th. winter with no loss of radiator fluid, which leads me to ask, does this (pink) coolant fluid ever gets renewed?? at a servicing schedule perhaps.

I have searched through forums on this site and can only detect, radiator, expansion tank.sensors, servicing schedules and the such, but no mention if the (pink) coolant fluid degrades or ever needs to be renewed/replaced at some point.

Open to all, for your input of knowledge.

Thanks to One and All.

In the service booklet, it says to replace it every five years. Which reminds me - I don't think mine was done last service...

I thought it was a lifetime coolant unless contamination occurred.

Thanks again ap0gee,

Got another question hmm!!

Percentage 40% antifreeze I understand, but, if whole system is replaced with G12 longlife, how can this figure be achieved.?

Assuming the neat/undiluted G12 is already 40% in some cases a figure of 60% antifreeze in much colder climates than here in the UK, is required, how can this figure be achieved.?

Bearing in mind no water can-be added to G12 how is it diluted/increased to reach 40% -- 60%.

It is also not clear as to how much in total litres it takes to refill cooling system, looking at other Fabia models 1.2 and 1.4 engined cars, are 5.0 to 6.0 litres, according to 'Haynes' manual.

Thanks again for input.

If you get the G12+ from the dealer, it's concentrate, so you need to do a 50:50 dilution for however much you need to add. In the past, I've used demineralised water to do the dilution, just to be on the safe side. AIUI, you don't need to be mega-accurate with the dilution, as the coolant will work fine under all UK conditions at anywhere from 40:60 to 60:40 dilution.

Ever since the 'air cooled Fabia' incident, however, I've just been using this:

Halfords Advanced Antifreeze 5 litres from Halfords Price £20.99 3 for 2 On All Winter Chemicals and Scrapers

...as it's cheaper, ready-mixed and meets the G12 spec (even though it's listed as something like VAG code TL-774D, it's actually just a different code for the same spec). OK, so it's not G12+, or even G12++, but all varieties of G12 are compatible with each other. A big bottle like I've linked ought to be enough - certainly was on my wife's 1.4 MPi...

It's up to you what you use, but IMO, the Hellfrauds stuff saves a little bit of money and hassle, as while SWMBO's car loses no oil or coolant (despite my best efforts!), mine loses a teensy bit of both over time, and I can't be doing with making up the G12+ with water every time I need to top-up...

Had garage check-out G12 strength and was OK, down to -32degrees.

Garage advised to leave for when Camshaft,Auxcillary belt etc and water-pump fitted around mid 2010 (next year), and have new G12 replaced then.

Thanks for all the input.
