Hi,

Year 2000 Fabia 1.4 16v.

Have had intermittent problem starting (3 times in two months)

Turn ignition foot off gas starter turns over but engine doesnt fire or fires with no power (Chuggs ?) then dies after a feew seconds. Have tried light and heavy use of acceleratormakes no difference, no power.

After about ten minutes engine starts no problem. Car runs full power no misfiring or anything.

Can anybody help please

I reckon it could be one of three possibilities.

1. Throttle Body faulty or not set correctly

2. Coolant temp sensor faulty (causing over fueling)

3. EGR valve either faulty or not set correctly

Pop it into your local dealer to check out the fault codes and get them to carry out basic settings on both the throttle valve (channel 060) and EGR (channel 074). I use to get alot of 1.4 16v Ibiza's on PDi that used to do the same as your car, the factory weren't setting up the EGR valves which caused all sorts of problems so i'd check there first.

I experience the same symptoms you report.

Fortunately I have a lpg conversion so I can switch to lpg and the symptoms disappear. Only happens when trying to use Petrol.

Do you use the 98 superunleaded as recommended on the petrol flap or do you use 95 unleaded for the saving?
