new discs/tyre wear

Featured Replies

Well, 46k in and I've just had to replace the rear discs. First car I've ever had that has worn out it's rear brakes before the fronts. The rear discs were well worn - I think the handbrake has maybe not been fully releasing all the time, certainly the rear brakes have been squeaking for the past couple of weeks. I've lubricated everything but will monitor it over the next couple of weeks.

Whilst doing this I've discovered that the offside rear tyre has been worn out on its inside edge. Looks like a camber issue I'll have to get the dealer to check it out when it goes in next time and before the warranty runs out, since I think that something is not right heare. The nearside tyre was nowhere near as worn, and they were both replaced at the same time.... anyone any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Rear brakes generally do very little TBH so either the balance is out or it's just succumb to corrosion which is what usually kills them after about 2 years. I am just coming up to 60k in mine and the wear on all the brakes is very good

You can tell if the brakes rubbing by going for a drive, then compare the temperature of each wheel. The rears should be quiet cool and the fronts warm to touch (wheels not brakes). If a single wheel is hotter than the rest it indicates a sticking/seized caliper.
