Switchable Remap

Featured Replies

Hi, Does anyone have positive experience of Switchable Remap units, Bluefin etc.

There also seem to be a number of new players in this area all look to be offering a similar unit, poss just rebranded, which hold 2 maps plus the standard map with fault code reading and reseting built in. All appear to be in the £350-£400 price range. GCL and Celtic are 2 names I came across with Celtic offering rediculously high outputs (over 200bhp from a PD140??). GCL only appear to have existed for less then a year but do sponsor other forums some with reasonable feedback.

I must have a switchable map as the car is also driven by SWMBO who finds the current power a little too much.

I know blue fin is not too easy just to swap over each time your missus is using the car.

Is this from personal experience as thats not what Bluefin say - their site says just connect the Unit and press a few buttons.

Bluefin is easy just connect, turn on ignition, wait 5 mins, Done

This is gen that I got from....here

I'm considering bluefin myself so am doing a bit of research.

Superchips seems to be the most reccomended around if a little dear.

Have confirmation that you only need to connect to the PC to load the new map. Both are then stored in the Blufin so you can easily swap between them.

Interesting but the saving you'r offering over JKM for Bluefin is £383 vs £390 for what looks very similar functionality.

Do you claim any benefits over Bluefin, which after all has been around a fair while, what figures do you offer for a PD140.

Quite a coincidence that you should post this today.. as I posted this up last night:

I don't know the features of the Bluefin although I have just had a look at the website. I think the main benefit of our unit from a functionality point of view is the inclusion of an immobiliser map should you wish to use it. Otherwise I think they are pretty similar.

The figures we quote for the PD140 are 170bhp and 385Nm torque (+32bhp and +65Nm torque) with nice smooth delivery.

you can immobilise the car with bluefin too.

Fair enough, although with a quick look at their website that wasn't mentioned. It seemed to be more expensive that is mentioned in this thread too.

not to sure if id go bluefin again tbh, stage 1 map was good, but the stage 2 one was rubbish

I have Bluefin and am very happy with it.

5 mins maybe a bit optimistic, it was more like 10 mins when I put the car back on the standard map before it went in for service the other week.

Depends where you buy it from.

most definately not five minutes. copy your cars original map 5mins+ load it onto the superchips server 5mins+ load it back onto you car 5-10 mins. if you plan on going further than stage 1 i wouldnt bother with this. Their k03 stage 2 software is a little suspect i think. stage 1 is good though

I have an ST3 Self Tuning System from ChippedUK - Viezu Bromsgrove. I have used this on my last 2 cars and I am just waiting for the release of the maps for my current car (Octavia vRS CRD).

There is plenty of feedback on this company over on uk-mkivs.net

It used to take 9 minutes to swap maps over and I think there is a group buy over on uk-mkivs now at £330.

The TFSi does take a long time to flash, no matter what you use. It's around 15 mins with any of the tools I've used including CMD, MPPS and the STS.

Seems odd that it would be more expensive from Superchips than anyone else, but fair enough  I've never been in the market for one (could you guess why?) and so have never put much research into them apart from trying to make sure we're competitively priced, which I believe we are. Not that it's all about price, anyway

if i was in the market for a switchable remap id prob pick shark90s over blufins if I were in your shoes.

think of superchips as the jack of all trades master of none. they deal in a lot of manufacturers instead of specialising with single marques such as revo etc who concentrate on Vag. So bang for buck if i were to buy a switchable map id want one from someone who only deals with Vag.

not forgetting I have blufin my self and i have it runing well at then moment so im not biased

Si - you've got the Stage2+ map loaded at the moment - is it that much better than stage 2?

I've got Bluefin stage 2 and was expecting a bit more power at the top end. I have the stage 2+ map too but am short of a uprated HPFP to the tune of one :)

If you look at my initial stage 2 map it was foooked at the top end, the stage 2+ map cured this and is way way better as you can see.

you wont be upset mate, the stage 2 map was rubbish IMO. If you have the stage 2+ map id put it on and see how you feel.

That's interesting to look at.

From what I've read, if I get fuel cuts with the Stage2+ map, they're going to happen at the lower revs and not at the top end, which as you say is where your 2 maps seem to vary by some margin.

I'll try it this weekend I think. Out of interest, did you try the stage 2+ map without your autotech?

Typo - typing before morning coffee.

No dont try that, you will get fuel cuts then as the map is going to be asking for even more fuel.

I have just been on the RR this morning and the figures are higher now with tehe ECU fully adapted to the map anbd the new intake.

Dyno plot is in the ITG intake thread.

I was suffering with excessively high intake temps though so im guessing i really should get an intercooler

Ah, ok - guess I do have to fork out for the pump then.

Lee (focuszeetec) had an APR FMIC for sale, not sure if he got rid of it or not yet but the price wasn't too bad.

Im flat out of dollar this month, plus its winter on the way, so i think ill be ok for a little bit. Put a little away each month then get something good before the summer i think.
