Changing blown airbags in a fabia

Featured Replies

Just a quickie. When it comes to changing airbags, aside from actually changing the dash and fitting new airbags to the steering wheel / under the dash, does the airbag ECU actually need replacing, or can it be reset via vagcom? :) I am aware of the seatbelt thing as well.

Thanks.

I think it needs to be replaced as its a single use controller.

That's what I wanted to confirm for sure.

They can be fixed, but wheter it's legal/ethical I'm not sure.

Well, if it's not a 100% fix, then in my eyes it is definitely not ethical. If it can be fixed to act again as new, then I don't see a problem - Just as long as it is a definite.

I've seen it done by being taken apart and the chip being wiped of crash data and reset, as far as i could see job was a good 'un.:)

Oh I see, so it's a bit like wiping a hard drive & refitting.....

I think so, like I say as far as I could see. So it may be lethal lol

I'd say it's more akin to a remap - think of the possibilities:thumbup:

Remap the controller, so that when a set speed is exceeded then the airbags deploy. Could be interesting at 140MPH.
