howdy and mines ordered

Featured Replies

I've been following the forum for years (lazily!) without registering, so howdy folks

Serious questions had to be asked of my 1.9 4x4 octy (an amazing package but not exceptional) which resulted in me ordering my 170 Elegance snow monster yesterday....delivered end of November....whoooohooo

Victoria Garage, Maud in the boonies of aberdoomshire have to be applauded :D:cool: top outfit and chilled style.

Unfortunately I've become hacked off with the main dealers in aberdoom :thumbdwn::rotz::mad: as they've forgotten what decent service is all about, so i voted with my wallet

5wks and counting..........

Welcome to Briskoda and the Snow-monster Owners Club.

Excellent choice and the second 170; you will be getting aerofurb jealous with that quick a turn round from order to delivery.

Just as a note my Dad has just bought an ex demo Superb TDI 170 DSG; very impressed particularly with the performance and refinement of the engine.

Anyway the usual questions such as your choice of colour and any extras.

Well.... as the second SMOC with a 170 how could i refuse the detail ...responding like this definately ranks me in some sort of geekery scale :rotz:

Spec' ordered: Elegance TDI CR170

Colour: Storm Blue

Extras:

  • Fitted Detatchable Towbar and electrickery
  • Rough Road Package
  • Tyre Pressure Monitor
  • Flaps and Full Tank o' juice (thrown in with deal)

That's about it really....the SM comes with just about every gizmo a gizmo-geek could practically want.

In my not so humble opinion, to buy a similar car with the levels of comfort, competency and hardiness engineered into the package the SM represents would cost at LEAST £10-15k more and would have the double whammy of much higher running costs to boot.....and it wouldn't go like the clappers. I've thoroughly researched this so it's no longer a geeks opinion...it's fact!

Welcome to the SMOC 170 brotherhood (or sisterhood...), scunjee

What did the towbar cost work out to in the end and which bits did you actually order. I've got the towbar prep ordered but waiting to see the comparison costs between Skoda (detachable) towbar and after market versions. Brochure is a bit vague as to which bits you actually need.

Not jealous about the reduced waiting time, just want mine yesterday....!! :)

We're about to order and had wanted (and still do) a tow bar, however the dealer told us not to bother with the tow bar prep as it complicates things when the dealer comes to fit the tow bar. He also suggested we source one elsewhere as he reckoned it was going to cost about £600 through the dealer

He thought we should be able to get one fitted through a specialist for about £350 to £400.

Also interested on the tow bar option.

I noted on the option list "Towbar preparation" @ £130.43. But i'm not clear what this is? Do you still need to purchase a removable tow bar? can this be factory supplied. I only want it carry bikes, so i'm not interested in any electrical preparation.

Checked with a couple of towbar specialist before I ordered mine but no-one had one for the Yeti at that time. So decided to get dealer fitted detachable. One Skoda dealer quoted me a special price of £415 if I ordered the car from them (supplied & fitted with single electrics). I think this was a good deal for the actual towbar, but the dealer I ordered from gave me a better deal on the car plus the towbar, front & rear mudflaps, floor mats and rubber boot liner for £599. Both dealers told me the factory towbar preparation was not necessary.

I went down the aftermarket route of towbars when I bought my octy ....yes it works and yes it is considerably (150 notes) cheaper than skoda fitted thingy but it also looks after market!

my dealer advised not to order factory towbar prep and leave them fit it in their shop...440 notes job done. seems to be a common theme! Single electrickey and detatchable towbar.

completely unrelated....a colleague of mine bought a octy vrs after asking about my 4x4....ok so they is a world apart in performance but the foundation is the same.....he's now spewing because he's tied to his (company vehicle) for the next 4 yrs and has more than a bit of snow monster lust/envy going on.....and he aint the only one

Are skoda for real saying they only expect to sell 3k SM's????? That's one way of keeping the prices up i suppose make sure theres a healthy interest in limited supply!

Thanks for the info. I have gone for the factory prep (rightly or wrongly!) and will wait and see what is on offer both from Allams (from whence it will come, soon, please...! :) ) and the after-market suppliers.

I too prefer quality over price!

Hi aerofurb,

Any news on how your order is going; having to sit tight myself as the chap I am dealing with is away till Monday. So my Snow-Monster could still be stuck in Emden for all I know.:(

Hi

James at Allams has promised to let me know as soon as the status changes on mine - it should be built within the next few days (if not already) according to what he told me last week. Fingers crossed. Impatient, moi?!

We test drove the 140 and liked it, but missed the umph from the 16 valve engine in the Octavia.

The yeti with the 170 hp beats most of the other VAG vehicles in 0-100 kph (8.4 secs.) with the same engine. This promises nice midrange acc. on the Autobahn.

Other details:

Candy White - as this reduces the bug-eye effect on the front.

Ambition version is the only choice here in Denmark with this engine.

Removable trailer hook - need to take stuff to the dump.

Bi-zenon lights - getting up there in age and need to see at night

Columbus Navigation - I dislike the Pioneer installed in the Octavia, too small print to read.

Climatronic air - works well in the present car.

Goodyear Ultragrip 7+ winter tires mountd on the original wheels. 17" summerwheels to be added at the appropriate time next year.

Project factory build week 48.

We drive to Spain every winter and I do a lot of driving in germany all year. The Haldex and power promises to be a potent Autobahnlok as well as being better able to handle occaionally slippery and snowy roads.
