Problem with petrol pumps

Featured Replies

Filled my FL 1.4 TSI 3 times now with petrol, at a different petrol station every time. At each one the pump cuts out when I pull the trigger all the way up for max flow. I have to fiddle around with the nozzle and hold the trigger about half way. So I don't get max flow.

Anyone else had this happen? Maybe I should read the manual!

More practise needed....lol

Should have bought a diesel

Sorry :o

Hi,

I've not got my Octavia yet but have had a similar problem with my VX220. It's caused by the angle of the pipe coming from the filler neck. The back pressure caused by the petrol not flowing away quickly enough makes the fuel pump think that the tank is full & hence stops the fuel from flowing.

The solution is to alter the angle of the fuel filler (twist it left or right) & if this doesn't work pull the filler back by a couple of inches (not too far though or you'll have petrol on your shoes!!).

I hope this sorts your problem.

Doug

I had lots of these issues with my old Mondeo mk3, once I had to use two pumps! Sainsburys pumps just kept cutting out, no issues with Shell at the time. I only use Shell now anyway.

I agree and I've had the same problem with other cars it just needs a bit of adjustment of the nozzle. I've also got a 1.4 TSI and have not had any problems at all so far but I've only filled up twice from the same pump.

I had no problems refueling my Octy II diesel, however, my Superb II is prone to spilling fuel if I don't exercise extreme care, or cease dispensing fuel after the first 'click'.

A colleague at work wnt on holiday abroad (Spain I think) and hired a car. One of the conditions of hire was that he had to return it with a fuel tank. When he picked the car up there was a large notice on the dashboard stating that the car used Diesel fuel with dire warnings of a charge of around £2000 if the incorrect fuel was put in. Anyway after not having to refuel he called off at the petrol station and put the diesel nozzle in but wasn't able to get any fuel out. The station attendant came running out and said he was using the wrong fuel and the car ran on petrol. My colleague said no, it's diesel and showed him the notice but the attendant insisted it ran on petrol. After much arguing and further investigation the attendant turned out to be right. Presumably if he had put the wrong fuel in he would have had some legal right to refuse to pay the charge but you don't need that sort of hassle when you're on holiday.

wow, that must have been one rough petrol engine not to notice the difference.

Personally I'd forced diesel in just to make the point.

I had a problem filling from the 'wrong' side (pump on the nearside). It hardly went in at all. I had to trickle it in.
