Fabia 1 remote central locking?

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

My mum has recently picked up a new Fabia 1 and is very pleased with it all round, which is great as I recommended it to her!!! The only thing she misses (it was on her old car) is the remote central locking function.

Is it possible to pick up a new remote off fleebay or somewhere and get it programmed in, and swap the key over? Or is it a stealer thing that needs additional modules in the central locking system?

Thanks,

dave

Model and year would be helpful

Hi,

The only way that I am aware of to convert key operated central locking to remote locking is to fit a genuine Skoda kit - part no BKA700003.

The Kit is £98 inc vat and the book time for fitting is 2.4 hours, making it a pretty costly job. Also this will mean you will have separate remotes, not ones built into the keys.

Cheers

R2 - it's a brand new one, about 2wk old. Model is Fabia 1.

eeny - Is it a straight forward or lots of electrics/dash out job? If straight forward I'd do it for her but if it's full dash out, etc then I'd hand it to someone else.

Thanks both,

dave

that's something i missed as well. the main cost is fitting it which could cause all sorts of problems with the electrics I was told by the dealer if not properly fitted. Not worth the £200-£300 cost and possibility of messing up the electrical system. The dealers don't actually fit it, they get a third party to fit and charge a huge premium.

So by the sounds the best way forward is to get teh kit and then get an auto-elec to fit direct rather than through a stealer!

Thanks for the advice guys!

oooh, no offence to the stealers on here!

Nah do it yourself - can't be that difficult - I'll help if I can get the time as I've had most parts of our estate to bits now.

By the way Dave - Your mums is a Mk1 and you've posted in the Mk2 section so that may explain why you got Post 2 above!

No it's a 2009 brand spanker so I thought it was a Mk2 it's the 1 flavour so bog basic version. I've found a few universal systems which seem to be simple to install just need a wiring diagram???

I've just realised my mistake... sorry!!!

Nah - your right I'm wrong! - I misinterpreted what you wrote!

Your mum's is a Fabia II but in Trim Level 1 (god that's confusing when you try and write it as Fabia II 1).

Hopefully the links I sent look promising...

Cheers for the links, I've sent them through and will see what she says! I must admit some of the fobs look really cool, hmmm do i go for one too!?!?

FYI-curryholic - Maplin do a remote keyloq 3channel kit for about £30 -and also a four door central kit for about £25.The central kit needs a pulsed earth to lock/unlock( radio outputs are either pullsed or on/off) -that's two channels and a seperate actuator for the rear hatch (I fitted one into a length of plastic trunking and used a bit of cycle bowden cable to attach to hatch lock) .Still got the doors to do- but having been made redundant lost a bit of the will to do much ascar will possibly have to go in near future .The only problem area ( unless your into electronics ) is that the radio reciever needs12+/- 1volt -so you need to build a voltage regulator -I used a 7805 ( to get 5v) and an Aimtec 5/12convertor -and so far not had any spike problems on my MK1-though it is a TDI.

Thanks for that VWD, sorry to hear about the big R!

Her car has got manual central locking on it, but it's the remote central locking that she wants. Skomaz put me onto rclick.co.uk which sell the universal remote upgrades (<£30!) so I've contacted them and they've sent through the installation pages for the kit for me to have a look at. I'll compare these to the octy install that I found the other day on here and see what to do.

What exactly comprises of the "kit" ? Is it just the remote key ?

Is if fair to say the RF component for the car side is already built into the existing convenience modules in the car, or is this extra part of the kit besides the remote fob?

(the remote is to be fair, inferior looking to to the keys matched for those missing keys on already enabled remote locking, mind you that does command fairly high replacement costs from the dealer anyway)

Can anyone from Skoda actually give this a bit more insight into technically why it requires such a long labour time ?

Is this only electronic diagnostic work to code the existing convenience unit to accept remote controls, and then pair the new remote ???

Some clarity behind these high costs would be nice

Called Skoda today. The answer is that it requires a rewire. Not a replacement CCU as such, but the £100 Kit comes with the receiver as well as the remote, and so will require some dismantling.

Not the news I was hoping for but at least I know.

I guess its also possible to fit a CCU from a different level car too as an alternative like polo guys with central locking have done with fabia CCU's.

Not sure what part number this is though for the remote locking enabled cars, unless they also have the same kind of wiring addition and its not longer in the CCU. So the 2 and a bit hours is probably not unreasonable.
