Oil in spark-plug recess

Featured Replies

I've got a Fabia 1.4 16v 100bhp (AUB engine),

lately it been using loads of oil (I do 800 miles a week & use 2-3 Ltrs of oil aweek),

I've had the MIL light on, had a new EGR valve fitted and after reading about the problems regarding piston rings, I did a compression test.

But when I was taking the plugs out the recess for cylinder 4 was half full of oil

After cleaning the oil out I ran the test and all cylinders were about 14Bar, so Don't think the rings have gone :D

What I was wondering is:

1) Is it just a case of resealing the cam carrier or do I need to repair/replace the cylinder head too (Could it be worn valve seals?)

2) Would this account for the amount of oil I'm losing 'cos there are no visable leaks?

3) How much should this cost?

Thanks in advance

If the compression test is coming back as good i'd say it was valve stem oil seals. The rocker cover gasket sounds like it want's replacing but if the engine isn't dripping with oil I very much doubt it's the source of your oil consumption issues.

Do you get any blue smoke? Were the tips of the plugs oilly when you took them out to do the compression test??

The electrodes were oil fouled,

I am in the process of fitting an oil catch can as the throttle body had loads in it too,

thats what made test the rings cos I thought it was blow-by causing my oil to mist

On 1.4 16v its DOHC so that means cams off to reseal, is there a gasket?

Dont notice blue smoke though
