17705 VAG com error P1297

Featured Replies

Hi,

I went to Skoda to have a VGA com check. There was only one problem reported: 17705 P1297 - Connection charger - throttle valve pressure drop. I did replace air temp sensor and cut off valve and the error is still there. I have been told that I need to replace a throttle body, which is not very cheap part. Did anyone managed to cure the error I have without havin a throttle body replaced?

Many thanks

This is a very common code (do a quick search) and could be anything from a split pipe, to MAF failure, new N75 valve (which fixed mine), new DV, etc etc … but I've never heard that a new throttle body will fix it? I could be wrong of course because I know nothing :o

You could try cleaning the throttle body and resealing with a new £1.50 gasket?

The RossTech definition of the 17705 code is:

Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

See this site for a list of all codes:

VAG-COM: uitleg - tips - trics

Hope you get it sorted

Try the search button mate. Type in '17705' and millions of threads will pop up. For example: http://briskoda.net/octavia-i/fault-codes-17705-17545-a/7798/

This error is most commonly caused by a dirty throttle body, which be cleaned in 15mins. Happy reading!

Best bet is to start with the cheapest things first, clean the throttle body and check all hoses for leaks or loose connections, only resort to the expensive things (new throttle body, new MAF) last

Basically what this fault means is there is a differential between the air mass value and what the ecu sees, usually an air leak at dv or boost hose or sometimes the suction jet pump (under the intake manni if it's a 1.8t) However 99% of the time it is a failed throttle body, you can try cleaning it and having it reset, if that fails however you need a new throttle body, I believe westallc has a spare good one??

oh and i brought westallc's throttle body to which it cured it !

 LOL

lol glad to be of assistance....

you now need to get your remap done and feel the real power of the car.....

The throttle body was cleaned in the first place, it was dirty. Then I did replace air temp sensor and cut off valve, I am not sure if this is the same as D.V. The error is still there...

I do not feel any loss of power...

On the cold start start, however I feel a bit of shakes from underneath, I am not sure how to describe it..

I do not feel any loss of power...

If you think your getting full power then dont worry, its prob just an old fault code logged in the ECU.

I have the 17705 fault code on mine at the moment, it does it every time from a cold start, you can tell its in limp mode cause its way down on power and only getting 7psi boost.

Thought I'd fixed it by cleaning the throttle body but after 10 days it came back

I'm going to have another look at it at the weekend.... at the moment I suspect the problem may be on the vaccum system as 17705 only occures when the engine is cold and being driven very gentley with little or no boost.

If you restart once its up to temp it will run OK, all day at full boost.... which sort of rules out a problem with the boost pipe work DV etc... you would think

Ok. I am very confused about that error. Skoda did a VAG com check when the car was driven for the half of the day. So it was not on the cold start. On the cold start, when I stop at the traffic lights or in the lay bay with the engine on I can feel shakes from underneath the car. They increase if I switch the climatronic on. As soon as I drive off and change a gear it all goes away. As soon as I am about to stop the car feels as if it was out of breath. Could it be a MAF problems as suggested before? I do not know how to get to the bottom of the problem... I have got to many information:-)))

I was told that it could be a leak in the high pressure hose from the turbo. Coudl this be it?

It could be any number of things mate.

As someone's already said before, check all the hoses for leaks/splits first, check the DV's working properly, check the MAF, and then start with replacing the cheapest bits first and work up.

But make sure you erase the error code every time you try something new otherwise you'll never know if it's cured or not

Simple way to test for a MAF problem is to un-plug it and see if the car runs better.

If it does then the MAF is faulty.

HTH

if you all notice the 17705 fault code come's up an awful lot! the guy who did my re-map basically said it's a gremlin(virus) i had that same fault after i had my re-map done checked everything on vag com then physically checked all boost pipes etc everything was spot on! had my map sent away and the 17705 fault code written out by a guy in greece who is running a 1.8T lump at well over 500 ponies
