Fabia Leaking Rear door cards - covered by skoda Garage or not?

Featured Replies

Not sure where I stand on this.

Bought my Fabia back in July from a Local Skoda Dealer.

It's a 2002 72,000 mile car.

It comes with a year's Skoda used car warrenty.

the rear doorcards are leaking water (as they all seem to do from what I've read).

I called up the service dept today, and they said yes it's common, but NO it's not covered by us, you'll probably need to pay. But I said I'd bought the car only a few months ago, and the Service manager said he'd have a word with Sales Dept to see if they'd pay for the job?!

They never called me back with an answer.

Where do I stand on this one?

Well if the dealer uses the Skoda type sealant they will still leak anyway. Best to buy some Unibond 3 in 1 sealant and the new style trim clips and DIY. Sealer is £10, clips are £4 for the lot. One hour a side if you take your time.

Yeh I thinking it's a DIY job. The Door cards will get a good scrubbing when I take them off, to get rid of the previous many years of water leaks.

Incidently does the water get in from the window rubbers?

That should really be covered under that warranty, but I also agree with others here - it's probably better in the long-run to do it yourself, so you know it's been done properly. The door design simply isn't good enough and water gets in when it shouldn't - simple as that. The water collects while the car is stationary and should come out of the drain holes in the bottom of the door (also worth checking these are clear at the same time). But it gets a bit diverted on the way down, hence mouldy doorcards and damp carpets/mats as a result

I would also DIY it and its cheap to do.Not worth faffing around with the dealers and if they made you pay they would sting you hard anyway.

Make sure you pick up a bag of the doorclips from the dealer first though. They're pence and you will break some! :)
