D.I.Y. Error code reset - Where to get VAG-COM for PDA??

Featured Replies

Gentlemen,

How did those of you who own it get their VAG-COM software and how much did it cost (cable included)? I own a Casio PDA (em500) and I want to be able check the engine codes BEFORE going ahead to dealers or workshops.

My Octy vRS has just put up the engine light for the 2nd time in 7 days. Last Sunday, after rain (another thread mentions in regard to MAF), I got an engine light. The AA diagnosed code P1296 'Fuel and Air Metering', reset and I drove it, fine, for the last 7 day (after clean the MAF with some special alcohol).

The car is Jabba-chipped (last 27k miles) and has 64K miles on the clock (out-of-warranty). I'm guessing its the MAF, but I might want to reset the code a couple of times to see what happen (heavy rain might affect this, a thread makes mention of this).

Thanks

Rich

Think you need a full blow laptop capable of running some form of Windows to use VAG-COM have a look here:

Yep not available on PDA so you'll need a laptop or very long serial lead ;) See Ross-tech for software prices .... cables can be made cheaper by doing a search on Google. I got mine from here"]here and then soldered it up myself, but it won't work with the latest version of VAG-COM.... Version 3.x seems to do everything I need it to so I'm not too bothered by that :)

Let me know what you find, Im having a engine light come on occasionaly & the garage have checked it & it points to an intermittent MAF problem. weve changed the MAF twice & it hasnt cured it. Im going back to jabba next month to get it checked out.

Do you have a boost controller, if yes try running with the boost turned down, mine never does it with the boost turned down & it only comes on if youve been driving gently & then floor it & keep the "pedal to the metal", normally coming on at 5500-6000 rpm.

Ive asked around & yes damp air will cause the problem, check all the air intakes, filter etc to see if water can get in, also leaks on the Intercooler pipework can do it.

My 2p's worth...

I am currently awaiting VAG-Com type software from ESP Automotive, which I believe will give fault diagnosis/codes, so I'll post when they've sorted it for my PDA (Ipaq 1940).
