Xenon self levelling gone haywire/flickering up and down

Featured Replies

I've just been out to the car to move it back onto the drive and the lights are jumping up and down.

I took a short video but not sure how easy it is to see:

YouTube - Skoda Octavia II headlight self levelling - failure?

Has anyone else had this problem? I guess it's another trip to the dealers... :thumbdwn:

Hmm I think I've heard of this happening before. Was the car parked on the level? If memory serves, it was the self-levelling system getting confused and being unable to establish at what height the lights should be set at :)

YouTube seems to have taken a dislike to you Ben.

>>>>'This video is not yet processed' doh Edit: Now it's working and it sounds like you've swapped your engine for a PD one - with no oil!

May see you at the dealers tomorrow then??

Yes the car was on level ground Steve.

John - didn't you know I'm a closet smoker?

Hmmm - I might have a look under and see if you can spot the levelling box on the rear axle - I presume the system design is the same as that of the xenon-equipped Fabias. Maybe just see if it's moved or you notice anything strange...

There again, it might just have been having a little strop, and it'll be absolutely fine next time you need to use them!

Check your linkages on the n/s/f and rear suspension, probably find one come off or broke!

Been there, done that!

I ended up having the headlight motors and rear sender all replaced under warranty.

When I say the motors replaced I think they just renewed the whole headlight units rather than fiddle about......

Easily the biggest "thank f**k for a warranty" job I've had done since the A/C Clutch "fell off" the compressor years ago on my Mk1 Octavia.

Interesting, thanks Niall.

Eek.

Hope you get it sorted under warranty.

So do I. I have to say Rainworth Skoda have been very helpful with me however they were hesitant to do a lambda probe under warranty and are now having trouble putting it through. They did my suspension (twice) under warranty and this shouldn't be a problem.. my only concern is that they may only replace one part of the system leaving the rest of it in a questionable state, which may only become apparent in months to come once the warranty has run out. And I don't want to be forking out for that.

I thought a Skoda warranty through a dealer would be a no questions asked kind of thing, like on a new car, after all they are getting paid to carry the work out. However it seems that the warranty company may be a little reluctant to pay for things (despite it being an unlimited claim limit warranty) which in turn makes the dealer reluctant to agree to do the work as easily as I'd like.
