Vrs questions relating to oil and smoke

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've had my vrs over a year now and it never has once consumed any oil yet i've heard diesels usually need regular topping up as they burn oil.I have bought some extra oil should the need arise but after 18 months it hasn't ever. Is my case a bit unusual in the sense should i worry?

Another thing I thought of as my friend recently bought a vrs also, is that mine doesn't smoke much...in fact hardly can see it. When I accelerate hard, very occasionally i see a bit of white smoke but have heard from many people there's clouds of it.

Is it possible mines not breathing properly? or am i just being paranoid/

My vrs is totally standard.

Paranoid!!! Dont worry about the smoke, but it should be black not white (save the jacko jokes for another thread)

I would however be concerned that in 18 months you havent ever had to top up with Oil??

Surely you've had the car serviced, as they will give you a oil change then. How many times in a year are you checking the oil?

cheers for the reply. lol paranoid it is then

I check my oil every 2 weeks and do a oil change and filter every 3 or 4 months. But i thought even in that period it would be loosing oil as everyone i know that owns a diesel always mentions it.

Hi newskoda

I would not worry about it not using oil, I think thats a good thing.

Admitting not all Skoda's but all of my diesels I have owned have never used oil, and only

changed at the service intervals, in fact I have run one vehicle that had done over 30K without a top up.

and as far as smoke goes, I think with a diesel the harder you drive it the better it is for the engine, as it keeps the engine clean

Radiotwo

you will use very little oil if you are changing the oil as regularly as you say

and as for smoke, the remapped cars are generally more smoky, as more fuel is being injected in, mine has a bit of smoke when first started, but nothing else unless really booted, and that is only the built up crude from inside the cat/turbo/egr valve

so paranoid it is then from now on

In the 10k between servicing mine generally uses half the dip stick marker - about 0.5ltr? Not bad for a car which has done 119k and is used properly :)

Diesel engines when new usually need topping up as they consume oil when the pistons are bedding in up to 15k. to 20k. miles, after that they virtually no oil is consumed, as others have said normal driving and regular oil servicing negates the need to top up nut as with any car you should check your oil level regularly just in case something goes wrong. Your white smoke is probably condensation burning off in the first mile or two. A little bit of black smoke under hard accelaration is also normal. Just enjoy driving it and don't worry.

:iagree:

Agree with the above bud.

Your changing the oil every 3/4 months, which is fine. So no wonder its not going down.

Mines re-mapped, and its fine until I boot it, then it smokes like a chimney!!!! I like it

Mine uses about 0.5 - 0.75Lt between services (every 10K miles). It smokes when started and produces quite a bit when booted. I think they are all a bit different. I saw a re-maped Seat Leon thingy blast away from some traffic lights a few months ago. The smoke that came out of that thing was like a load of plastic being chucked on a bonfire. I think I could actually hear the DMF and clutch crying and melting.
