Superb reversing lights - far from superb

Featured Replies

Has anyone else found the reversing lights on the Superb to be almost useless? I live in the country so most of my night time reversing is in areas where there are no street lights. Obviously I have the sensors to tell me if I'm about to hit anything, but I do like to be able to see where I'm going - and the reversing lights are hopeless!

Aren't reversing lights meant for other road users to see your intentions?

Yes, this is what I thought.

If that was the case then surely they would be compulsory on all vehicles (they are not) and also checked on the MOT? (again not included)

Bulbs installed are 16W, just replace with R921 12V 21W Capless W2.1X9.5d.

nothing here!

Its the sunset glass not the reversing lights that are the problem , common problem with tinted windows is its hard to see through the back window at night

Yes - shouldn't affect the wing mirrors though, they aren't tinted or anything. I'm sure part of the purpose of reversing lights is to help you to see where you're going - I've never had this problem on any of my previous Skodas. I might try the bulb change and see if that helps.

Well they certainly seem ok to me and i live in the sticks as well no street lights here

Does the blub idea work, how much of an improvement is there

Haven't had a chance to try it - think I'm getting used to the gloom. Have booked it in to have a towbar fitted though. The company it's going to (Trident Trailers in Maidstone) sounded very knowledgeable, say they use OEM parts, have the machine to recode the onboard computer and will give a 3 year guarantee on the electrics. Oh, and it's £300 less than the dealer wanted to do the job.

Still a little nervous about it though!!

Do you have the chromatic (auto-dimming) mirrors? If so, try and switch the auto-dimming function off (a little button under the interior mirror) and wait a few secs (the little green light on the int mirror housing should go out). Then see if this improves matters.

I wish I did, but no. The main problem seems to be seeing things like hedges in the wing mirrors - this was not a problem I had with my Octy. If/when I get time I might try changing the bulbs to see if that helps

Having the reverse lamps inboard i.e. in the boot lamps does not help as most of the light is concentrated directly back. With the tinted rear window and the standard low wattage bulbs, very little will be seen, and even less in the door mirrors.

I have started to look into fitting extra lamps in the rear bumper, I am sure a suitable push in type can be found.
