Favorit immobiliser again...

Featured Replies

I have an issue developing with my Favorit - in fact it's been there since I got it in June, but it's getting worse. The issue is this:

When I insert and then remove the immobiliser key, sometimes the red light will begin blinking again immediately and I can't start the engine. While it's been mostly fine for a while, It's ocassionally taken two or three attempts to get it to work properly - but like I said, it's getting worse. It's taken five or six attempts on a couple of occasions recently.

I think the problem is simply that the metal traces on the key are wearing out - I can see where the metal's worn away in places. From searching here I gather the keys are no longer available, so I'm planning to have a go at bodging it with a conductive pen or something - but if that doesn't work, I might be left with no option but to bypass the immobiliser. I gather from a search here that such a bypass is possible, but how to do it is (wisely!) not public knowledge.

If someone "in the know" would be kind enough to PM me with instructions on how to do this, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi. I'm no expert mechanical wise, but cold you not contact someone on ebay who is breaking a Favorit and see if they will sell you an imobiliser key? Are they all the same?

It's completely different of course but that's how I got hold of some rear headrests that I was missing.

Anyway, good luck.

Geoff.

I guess I could find a replacement key easily enough, but the immobiliser itself would, presumably, either need to be replaced with the one that the new key is paired with, or would need to be reprogrammed with the new key's code. (I'm assuming the keys have a unique code programmed into them - pretty pointless otherwise!)

Bypassing the immobiliser completely would be a simpler option if it becomes necessary.

I'm not too worried about the reduced security - since the car's previous owner decided having two keys on the keyring was too much hassle, so put the immobiliser key on a length of wire, the other end of which is screwed to the dashboard!

Anyhow, like I say, thanks for the response :)

the immobiliser is behind the speedo it cuts out the starter motor and fuel pump you just need to reconect them to the igtion swtich and it will work fine i did mine 4 years ago with help from my mate still got all the bits and keys in the loft

Have PM'd. The keys are no longer available so removal is the only option. It's an easy job to do once you know where to look :)

They're individually coded and no longer available.

Hi All,

I too have a 1995 Favorit GLXie, and I have exactly the same problem with my immobiliser key. I am down to the last key, and the contacts seem to be wearing out in either the key or receptacle on the dash.

Any suggestions/help as to how to remove the immobiliser would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance ;)

Hi I know this thread has not bee active for a while but if anyone can send me the instructions on how to bypass the immobiliser that would be great as mine has totally stopped working and I can't start my car.

I solved my immobilizer problem by buying a old ECU from a model not factory fitted with a immobilizer.
