VRS TDI PD Dash board lights up like a Xmas tree, Limp home, etc

Featured Replies

I'm sure there are various threads on these issues but Can I find them? No, I can't!

So, I have had a PD170 VRS for approx 4 months and 7k miles (now on 73k) and on a couple or three occassions both the "control system for exhaust" & "DPF" lights have lit combined with rougher running but have then gone out after a few days and miles with the car going back to normal (superb) running.

However they both lit up yesterday and the car went into limp home mode today together with the "glow plug system" now flashing continuously.

What do you guys think the issues are?

I have spoken to 3 Skoda dealers today, 2 of which said just book it in icon13.gifand they would have a look and the third dealer (Station Garage icon7.gifat Ewhurst, Surrey) said it might be a pressure sensor on the exhaust which is a known fault which dealers can fix if required by fitting a new sensor and an updated programme.

Anybody else had similar issues and if so how where they resolved?

Sounds familiar. I had the same on three occassions. Had to be recovered each time as RAC could not reset at the scene ( I was always at the wrong end of the country!). First two times, new exhaust sensor was fitted. Third and most recent time resulted in a complete DPF system being replaced. TF is was still under warranty!

Its your diesel particulate filter playing up, it needs periodic regeneration and obviously yours is not doing it correctly. It will only regen if the car is driven in a steady fashion at around the 2200 rpm mark.

If this isn't achieved the filter will become saturated with soot.

Station Garage are referring to something called the 26E6 update. All vRS TDIs were supposed to be recalled to have a modified exhaust pressure sensor and a revised engine map to reduce the likelihood of the DPF blocking up.

Our vRS was done at Station Garage a while back and has never been a problem.

Thanks for the response DSTEV2000.

Was yours done under warranty or did you pay?

My car has to more than 60,000 and is in its third year so is out of warranty. The guy from Station Garage said it was a known problem so it sould be free of charge then!?

If its a recall then it should be done for you FOC.

see my posts hope it helps, speak to skoda customer service if you dont get the service you deserve

Yes- just got Skoda assistance out- regenerated and no charge!!

Came at 8am on saturday morning!!

DPF was 50% blocked, all my 3 lights were on, dpf, coil, engine management

RAC/AA can't do it- has to be skoda assist- think alll skodas under 3 years old are covered FOC

Anyway the skoda guy says as soon as the dpf light comes on you MUST do the re-gen yourself- otherwise once the 3 lights are on it has to be skoda assist oir the main dealers
