VW Mk4 Golf Anti roll bar on a VRS Mk1?

Featured Replies

Hi can anybody help?

I previously had a mk4 golf GTI but sold it to get another Octavia VRS mk1.

I kept the rear Anti Roll bar from the golf and wondered if anybody knows if this will fit straight onto my new VRS?

I dont know the make of the ARB but it is yellow if that helps?

Cheers

Yup, straight fit unless it was a 4WD version..

Would it be a straight fit for a front strut brace if I can find one cheap..hint..hint

Yep, The Octavia Mk1 is built on a golf floorpan / Engine Bay so most Golf Mk4 / Audi A3/S3 bits will go on.

Yeah, the only stuff that you really have issue with is if it's from a 4wd version at the back or the front ARB/Struts as they use the HD setup whereby the ARB's bolt to the strut on the vRS/Cupra/R32/TT's etc rather than with the lesser cars and their setup which bolts to the wishbones. That leaves a lower number of front strut options on the vRS as the likes of Spax etc don't actually do anything which allows you to fit the ARB links to the struts.

So just putting a standard golf gti mk4 rear arb onto a vrs will help the handling a little,How come the vrs doesnt have a rear arb?

No because there isn't one. We are talking aftermarket one's here.

Whiteline etc.

I see mate thanks:thumbup:

Hello there,

Dont mean to steal ya thread but was just wondering what ARB's are out there for a octy mk1, as my front need replacing. And if i read this thread right there isnt one on the rear of the car but a 3rd party one can be fitted? if so could some people please point me in the direction of where to buy front(and rear, if avlaiable) ARB's.

Thanks for the help in advance!

If you need to do the pair then the Eibach's are worth a look. They balance well and have the added advantage of being the neatest fitting bars of the aftermarket lot.

Agreed. I run a Eibach rear, and standard R32 front bar, and i find that to be a nice balance :)

Kind Regards

Garry

Got Eibach front and rear. look very neat. Makes a lot of difference. Even the front is very noticeable as its a lot stiffer and doesn't creak!

I run an eibach rear, they didnt used to do a front one for the vrs, when did they start doing that?

You can just use the Golf r32 one, its 23mm which i think (from memory) is the same as the eibach in any case:thumbup:

The R32 Front ARB does fit with no issues, if that is what you are referring to(think you are as they are 23mm).

You can't use the golf R32 rear ARB as that only fits the 4 wheel drive versions like Octy 4x4 or TT or A3/S3 cars.

To get a Rear ARB for the VRS, you will have to get an aftermarket one such as Eibach, Whiteline, Neuspeed etc.

Allytech, i do have a r32 front arb.

However i understood the eibach front arb to only fit the vag cars that dont have the vrs/r32/cupra r setup ie arbs that mount to the wishbones.

DMJ, where did you get your eibach front from?

Well i saw a Kit for a mk4 golf Here, r32 not mentioned in the compatability.

Thats because the vrs shares a similar front end set up to the r32 in that the arbs mount to the strut via a droplink and not the wishbones like the standard golf or the standard octavia. The r32 rear arb as already mentioned would not fit so the standard golf kit should not fit the r32.

Spot on:thumbup:

i think i understand, a mk4 golf GTi front ARB wont fit but a R32 front ARB will fit, and on the rear its reversed...

Is that right?

yes pretty much, a mk4 front arb wont fit a vrs (but will fit other octavia models except the 4x4) but the r32 front arb will fit the vrs. The rear r32 arb wont fit the vrs but the normal mk4 one will:).

Thats why i want to know what bars/car DMJ has.

I had r32 front and rear arbs on my previous octavia 4x4 that worked well:cool:

Well if you mean normal aftermarket one that is. As the normal MK4 does not have a ARB as standard like the VRS.

I am sure you know this matey. just making sure we don't confuse Pot Of jam.

lol, yes thats what i meant:)

Hi guys. By any chance do any of you have a part number for the R32 arb or best place to get them. Also is it a good idea to fit tt wishbone bushes as I had polyurethane and the wishbone slipped of the rear on 1 side so took rear out and went back to standard.
