Columbus and Facelift Octavia

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the difference between the FL Columbus AAN 800 001 and the non-FL 1Z0 035 680 A version?

Externally they look the same (as far as one can tell from brochure pictures) except for "Columbus" on the FL one - is this the case - if so, can the same trim be used for fitting?

Functionally, is it the ability to display parking sensor/climatronic/phone info on the FL version that is the difference? Can this be achieved in other ways on the non-FL version, if so how?

If not I may have an unused refurbished one for sale!

Anyone?

there is no difference between them.. it only depends what software is loaded... Every Columbus can display climatronic, parking sensors etc.. I have pre-FL 2005 Octavia with FL Climatronic showing on Columbus...

In that case I wonder why it has a new # ? Anyone know of the s/w difference?

I have voice control too in the old 1Z unit - now 3T with 2664 firmware..

So, no nearer the answer?

I think that all depends on the software...

May be there's some subtle internal change to the hardware that can't be seen at the moment but will come to light then a new version of the firmware can't be applied to the older versions.

typo!

Like I said, I have 07 Version of 1Z unit... I upgraded firmware to 2664, now it is 3T unit with voice control...

Does anyone have the h/w and s/w version numbers of the "new" Columbus AAN 800 001?

it will be probably with new software.. 2664

Is 2664 only for 1Z units?

I may plump for a 3T unit then.

But not yet. Too much going on with baby imminent!

But which Columbus for the FL Octavia?

A 1Z0 on firmware 2664 or a 3T0 on any firmware...

So does that mean the climate and parking sensor display correctly on a 3T0 version (if installed in a FL scout?)

cheers

Jon

I have a FL vRS with a 3T0 unit and the climate & parking sensors are displayed

yes, they will be displayed correctly!!

Well, I've taken the plunge and installed a "refurbished" RNS 510 (it came from Germany with a key card, map and manual discs and aerial connectors - so who knows).

But two immediate problems: no voice guidance when navigating and although the reversing sensors are displayed the climatronic info is not! Any thoughts?

Also having trouble locating the right trim but that can wait!

I have tried upgrading the f/w to 2664 but can't get the disc to load - nothing after a screen which says "Load s/w disc" or words to that effect. What's the best way to check that the disc has been burnt correctly - it was verified as part of the burn.

Many thanks Simbo.

SETUP & turn the voice guidance volume up? ...another way - with a route programmed in & navigating, press the i button (top right) & immediately turn the volume knob up - you should hear her speak?!

She speaks - what a relief! The second option seemed to do the trick.

Possibly needs a little VCDS tweaking to clear any faults & get the car/Columbus matched up correctly?

Anyone near St Albans with an half an hour? to spare for beer?

Have a butchers at the Useful Part Numbers thread >here< has loads of part numbers for the different trims...

I've got the part number thanks; it's getting the dealer to track one down from Skoda. Apparently they're on back order with no eta!

Do you know what version firmware is on it now? What program did you use to burn the image to disc? Does anything >here< help?

It's h/w 04 on f/w 1004 at the moment. I used something similar to here: in fact MagicISO to switch the file names as suggested by:

Volkswagen RNS 510 Firmware Upgrade to version 2660 / 2662 / 2664 / 2666 / 2668 | my-gti.com

and CDBurnerXP to create the disc - my cheapskate version of Magic can't handle files over 300Mb. However since the MFSW buttons still do not work this suggests I'm still at the apprentice stage and I try the magic bit again (iso to nrg). Any thoughts?

Brilliant! Disc burnt at x8 (the slowest I could do). Disc loaded without problem, although several nerve-wrenching moments! A couple of immediate issues though: current NAV position is somewhere in Germany and the MFSW controls still do not work.

I guess a VCDS tweak is needed - anyone near St Albans thirsty?

I read somewhere the current position problem is a known issue - something about cold starts?

Now I can start thinking about the BT retrofit! Anyone experience of OEM Retrofits and the FISCON BT unit?

Many thanks again Simbo.
