Managed DNS providers - any recommendations?

Featured Replies

We have our external DNS hosted by a third party which used to be nice and cheap , and very reliable.

Unfortunately the number of requests we generate has gone up rather a lot and their charges have jumped hugely so I'm looking for somewhere else.

What managed DNS providers do other people here use , and are you happy with them? How much do they charge per month or year , and do they have a limit on the number of queries they allow?

I've got no interest in managing my own external DNS servers as I need as close to guaranteed 100% uptime as possible

Thanks

UltraDNS - have found them to be very good, extremely reliable with a good management interface.

No limit on requests and they don't mind about short TTLs, but the cost structure is geared around the query thresholds.

Costs...I believe it can vary from customer to customer depending on negotiation, but probably at the more expensive end of the spectrum.

We use Claranet, but they supply our connectivity too- don't know if they'd do it seperately. Can send details of an account manager if it helps.

Are OpenDNS any good to you? We used them at our office and at home, they offer a basic level of management for the free version, dont know if its what you after though?

They also offer Deluxe and Enterprise packages which offer increased management.

I thought about OpenDNS myself for this, but wasn't sure about the query limit question. Suppose you could ask them. I know they offer 'Enterprise' solutions, but quite how enterprisey they are I don't know! :D

I use the Deluxe version at home and have no complaints at all, the performance and stats you can get access to are 1st class in my book. And that was for £6 or something for the year! Think the Enterprise is around £1500 from memory.

We use Easynet here, but that wasn't my choice... :)

At work we are about to switch our DNS from Verizon to Easynet, primarily as we want to dump Verizon completely. Our new ISP is Easynet, so thats where our DNS is going.
