AF quoted me happy

Featured Replies

Got a new quote for the mongrel - going 3rd party now as the engine alone is worth more than the market value of the car..... £375 with all mods. (declared 300bhp as an estimate Looking 99% likely that I will go ahead with that on the 12th December, but shall be doing a little more shopping around first.

What impressed me most was when they asked me how long it had been tuned for, it got me more discount the fact it has been tuned up hard for so long (1.5 years @ 220bhp & 2.5 years @ 260bhp) and the fact that all modifications were done by myself, with the car in my ownership.

Feels odd going 3rd party, but that's the way it goes I guess. Better start stocking up on spares

maybe you should just get the engine insured

Would have been useful in Germany 6 weeks ago....

15,000 miles p.a which is about right given I live only a mile from work and any extra is merely the odd social. It might end up being 20k, but I don't know yet.

I have thought about one thing - The £50 saving from going 3rd party I think means I will lose my ability to drive other people's insured cars with their permission - something only a full comp policy allows I think?

Dan, is it standard practise to discount the car that has been running more power for longer? Etc etc....

It is more the experience you have had with the car at that BHP and how long you have owned it.

I wasnt asked anything about how long I had X amount of power, or how long the car had been change when I got my quote?

Feel slighly peeved now!

Might have been when they said "comfort TDI, 100bhp" and I went "Umm, well, yeah, but it's closer to 300 now"

I can get a callback arranged for you if you would like, It does depend on which Insurer you are with as they request different aspects of information to meet the criteria.

But surely to find me the cheapest quote of your list of insurers the same questions need to be ask over and over? Otherwise I could have said to that question yeah, its been running that power for years and then the same insurer as Jason would/could be cheaper for me?

Ahh, but you are assuming that car insurance is a logical thing :D

From personal experience. you can't trust them anyway mate.

Agree to a policy with you on the phone, then threaten to cancel it days later by email.

AF are a big farce and i'm glad i got away from them, and now have a new insurer who managed to get the details right first time round, was able to handle email messages appropriatly, and stuck by the agreement they made.

Hiya,

Sorry I prob did not make myself clear in my first post. the same questions are asked but it is the answers that can make the difference. The insurer might not be quoting for you due to your postcode / age / use / garaging etc etc.

I will gladly get your quote looked into for you,.

Dan.

That sounds good J

Trying to compare quotes/prices/cover like-for-like is difficult as while two people may be insured through AF, that doesn't mean you're ultimately insured with same company. AF are a insurance broker after all....

Steve

Im aware AF are just a Broker, and I know no quote can be like for like even if your the same age due to postcode's and that. But surely one of the big questions to ask no matter what is "How long has it been at its current stage of tune"

Dan, the policy has been drawn up? So not sure what can be done to it now?

Davey, out of interest who are you with now?

I'm with Chris Knott now mate. So far they are a more profesional company and easy to deal with. Highly recommend them over AF.

Like you say above, if it's an important question about the length of time the car has been tuned, why didn't they ask you (or me) that important question, and if you've been with them 2 years with the car in the same state of tune (like I was) then why do the premiums go up?

It's all BS if you ask me.

One thing is for sure, we can never win when it comes to insurance!

Fully Comp is worth it for the extra £50 if it includes driving other cars and motor legal cover.

Also have you got TP only or TPFT? The first seems a lot risky for £50
