I dont like them either BUT I have replaced the original H7 bulbs with Philips Xtreme +80% and they are much better. The problem appears to be the way the projector box works..its a crap setup TBH

thanks for that,it's not just me then !!

I found the other day how bad the reverse light was, trying to back up an unlight drive for 100yds... nightmare:thumbdwn: My previous car, a smart had much better reverse lights... and so did most of my previous cars too:D

Reverse lights are not meant to "light" the way. They just give an indication the car is in reverse.

Try looking at it, if it's only 5w try replacing with a 21w

did the mk1 have 2 reverse lights ? if so why does the mk2 just have 1 ?

The law says you only need one single lamp, as someone has already said they are meant to show someone approaching you that your car is in reverse, they are not so that you can see where you are going. Reversing lights are a fairly recent thing, indeed when I first passed my test no cars had them at all.

Theyre not that recent, many older cars had them and they just used the same bulbs as the numberplate.... I had a 1971 Austin 3 Litre which had them.

I'm planning to get my wife a Fabia with level 1 trim, and I note that the headlights are different from the level 2 and above (DE module?). What's the difference? Anyone know?

Fab 1 uses a 'traditional' reflector type headlight with dual filament H4 bulb (to give dipped and main beam).

Fab 2 and 3 use so-called 'DE module' headlights which are a type of projector headlight (i.e. using a lens in front of the bulb) and a single-filament H7 bulb. A shutter is moved (by means of a solenoid mechanism) partially in front of the bulb to give dipped beam, and moved out of the way entirely to give main beam.

Neither type of headlamp performs terribly well IME. I also run a Octy II vRS and a Golf GTi with H1/H7 projector halogens and they are markedly better than any Fabia headlights I've encountered.

The Fabia 1 headlights will be OK

Projector box ones are poorer IMO

did the mk1 have 2 reverse lights ?

if so why does the mk2 just have 1 ?

Yeap, mark I had two.

Dunno. Cost cutting or to tie in with lamp unit design at a guess.

whats the difference between h4 and h7 ?

thanks

You can get brighter bulbs for the reversing light.

The bulb is a P21W single filament type.

The new fast response brake light bulbs from Philips are brighter than the ordinary bulbs.

Can get them from various on line sellers. PM me if you like.

I think, H4 is a double element, used for dipped, and full beam, meaning only one bulb is needed.

With H1 & H7, one is the lower powered dipped bulb (H7 I think) and the other one, H1 is used for full beam (and fog ligths). So essestiannly, difference will be beam pattern and output/brightness.

If you have modules they are H7

I've got a Fabia 3 and they're definitely H7, just fitted some osram nightbreakers  and I have to say I think there is quite an improvement. They just seem to flood the road with light much better.

I've currently got a '59 plate Fabia 2 Combi as a loaner and I think the headlights are ok, i've been doing a lot of night driving down narrow country lanes and I have no problems at all. my usual car is an Octavia 2 with xenons. I like the bi-halogen setup as well, wish the Octy had it for the xenons :thumbdwn:
