Just change headlight bulbs....Help Required Please..

Featured Replies

I've just changed the headlight (H7) bulbs to Philips +80%. On the drivers side the plastic protector seems to be held on by a spring clip with like a pull ring on. I've got the bu66er off but I can't seem to fathom out how it goes back on. Also as I was fitting the bulb to the drivers side there was a very quiet high pitch noise which seem to be coming from around the fuel filter area, " Is this normal " or is it connected to the spring like clip I've been pulling.......Totally ........

Thanks In Advance Andy

Hi Andy

Very hard to describe, but there should be two bits of the spring that holds the metal bit of

the bulb, and then there is a hook that the rest of the spring clip hooks onto.

I have attached a photo ( I hope) not very good and not a fabia but might give the idea.

Cannot say about the noise, but don't think it is to do with the spring clip

I'm not on about the clip that holds the bulb in, it's on the drivers side, below the plastic protector, above the turbo, a metal clip like thing with a wire loop/ring pull type thing, I think it's to hold the plastic cover on as the one on the drivers side only has one little tab on the bottom and 2 plastic tabs on the top. can't get the little bu66er to clip back in.There is not one fitted to the near side as the cover has 2 little tabs on the bottom and 2 plastic clips on the top.........:o

I can't see these loops/hooks on Vag-cat. :rotz: If worst comes to worst you may have to remove the whole headlight unit to have a good look and do it. If you do then check your headlight alignment after you have finished. I was able to change my bulbs with that cover open and not off.

I'll see if I can take a photo of it Tomorrow

know what you mean its a pest because of the i/c pipe. you have to give it a real good pull towards the rear of the car and lift it up a little when you let it spring back. it has a kink in the wire and that hooks on the rear of the headlight back plate.

I had this exact issue 3/4 weeks ago - mentioned it at the Portsmouth meet, and was reassured it was just a retaining clip. I only had it on the offside - not the nearside. I also got the buzzing sound - that threw me but it thought it may be down to a minor short circuit....gave it a few mins, then cracked on.

All worked fine for me.

How are you finding the bulbs?

Just done this job on mine - with Phillips +80%.

Got a very good deal from xenons.biz - based in the Channel Isles so no VAT.

Think I paid £18.90 for the pair.

Mine doesn't have the clip you mention. Is that cos it's a PD100?

maybe...my previous 1.4 16v didn't have them!
