Scout Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

Do any Scout owners know if the alloy wheels fit in the hole for the spare wheel and then allows the floor to fit correctly once in place?

I don't really want to jack mine up and remove the wheel just to check!

I have a 4x4 on 16" alloys and have a 16" alloy spare so i'd guess yes.

Just curious, are you looking to replace the steel spare with an alloy?

I'm having two of my Scout alloys replaced tomorrow under warranty and was wondering if I could buy one of them back to use as my spare.

Also, sorry to talk off thread, my dealer, whilst activating the twin rear fogs function told me the cornering front fogs wasn't an option on my 2008 Scout. I see from your sig you have them listed, is my delaer wrong in telling me this function cannot be activated?

Many thanks!

Yes

Likewise, I recently had two replaced also, and tried that, but the dealer said they had to be returned, however I've located another alloy I am considering purchasing.

Having previously done a 190m journey at a maximum of 50mph on a space saver I'm keen to avoid that experience again!

I guess so, VRStu enabled mine for my in a couple of minutes, but it may be something that the dealers VAS system can't do, but VCDS can - a bit like my previous 4x4, where the dealer said dual fogs weren't posible, but again VRStu enabled them!
:o I had a go at putting my Scout 17" alloys in the spare well and they are a tight fit across and about 1"1/2 inches too high

I'm awaiting delivery of a Scout, and am also ordering a full set of additional 17" Proteus wheels for winter use. Is there an issue with these wheels or do you think its just a coincidence? Can you expand on the warranty issue?

Incidentally, I drove 300 miles yesterday on the "50mph" steel spare in my Fabia, which has a full sized 16" Conti SportContact on it. The speed warning sticker was overlooked for 99% of the journey and I'd bet my life (I'm still here today) that the wheel/tyre combination was, sorry, "would be" good for over twice that speed. Wouldn't suggest it when matched to 17" wheels though.

Just be aware that you cannot fit snow chains to 17" wheels on the Scout, there is not enough clearance for safe operation (this is stated in the manual). Hence I have opted for a set of 16" steels for winter use.

For info on the warranty issue see here - http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/halting-alloy-wheel-lacquer-delamination/138149/ - It appears to be a common Scout issue :thumbdwn:

As for exceeding the 50mph limit - what would happen when PC-Plod stops you points out that you're exceeding the 50mph limit and then tells you that your insurance has been invalidated

Thanks for the link - didn't know the problem was so prevalent. I had the same issue with some "Mountain" alloys on my Touareg and the local VW dealer said they wouldn't entertain a warranty claim! Sold now, so now opportunity to pursue.

As for the speed issue, I don't know how the law lies with what I considered to be an advisory warning which is stickered on by default to cover all vehicles/fitments. I don't know what "Construction & Use" says about wheels, but I've never seen a max speed rating on conventional road wheels. It begs the question: why fit normal sized "V" rated tyres?
