problems with DSG in Germany

Recommended Posts

There were some threads about the DSG not working as it should. Tonight I found out that in Germany, things are getting serious! There even is a phone number for all those who experience problems with their DSG, built between september 2008 and august 2009. 17.000 cars in Germany are involved (Golf, Scirocco, Eos, Jetta and Passat).

If you understand German, read this: Rückruf VW Golf, Scirocco, Eos, Jetta und Passat - Das DSG ist defekt - News - autobild.de.

I can imagine that Skoda, Seat and Audi will be involved, too. To be followed!

I'll Google it myself (or at least give it a try).

The problem is triggered by a faulty oil temperature-reading, and under certain circumstances could lead to the opening of one of the clutche in the gearbox. As it cannot be revealed in which 2500 cars this can happen, all 57000 cars from all over the world will be invited to the dealer to run a test. (in Germany 22000 car involved)

13 models are involved in the re-call: VW Golf, VW Scirocco, VW Eos, VW Jetta, VW Passat, VW Touran, VW Caddy, Audi A3, Audi TT, Seat Leon, Seat Altea, Skoda Octavia und Skoda Superb with 6 speed DSG, produced bedtween September 2008 untill August 2009.

You will notice a flashing shift indicator, a jerking car of even loss of power and opening of the clutch. All the owners of the involved cars will be notified by their brand. They will be invited to present their car where a software update will be done.

So, sqm_hb, to answer your question: no, the 7 speed gear-box is not involved!

Hi Broere, thanks a lot for your information.

Recently in China, there were two cases reported regarding Golf 6 's 7 speed DSG that mentioned the shift indicator flashing and malfunction light on, then the 7speed DSG just worked on 1,3,5,7 gears with 2,4,6 shut off after restarting the car, as well as the reverse gear also didn't work. Do you know is there any similar issue on Golf 6 with 7 Speed DSG in Europe? Any volkswagen's clarification.

Regards.

  • 1 month later...

One of my colleagues at work has Golf VI 1.4 TSI with the 7 speed DSG gearbox and this has just had the gearbox replaced after less than 2000 miles. The symptoms were the similar to those above. It seemed to jump out of gear, then had the flashing shift light. When we stopped and re-started the shift light stopped flashing and we tried to set off, but as soon as the 'box tried to select 2nd, it appeared to jump out of gear again, resulting in about a 4 hour wait for recovery by the RAC/VW assist.

Seems this does affect the 7 speed as well as the 6.
