Smashed rear window and firework thrown in!

Featured Replies

I think they should ban the free-for-all sale on fireworks.

There were a few kids in the alleyway between our houses and the main road on Sunday morning (about 1:30AM) throwing rockets and bangers at cars going past on the road.

You always hope for the dodgy firework with a short fuse at times like this.

I think they are going to have to ban the sale to the public.

It's a shame, but they are just too easy to misuse when there are a/holes like this around.

Well, Autoglass have been and gone and the window glass has been replaced - it only took them 40 minutes - very quick, I thought it would take a lot longer since they have to take the door cards off but the guy obviously knows his trade! Downside that the guy showed me is that some of the shattered glass has stuck to the greased electrical wires which causes intermittent crunching noises and occasionally makes the window mechanism stick - he said it would take a few goes for this to sort itself out - anyone experienced this? I asked whether the glass pieces could scratch the new pane of glass but he said not.

Anyway, I have also had a chance to look at the painwork surrounding the window properly now (previously had temporary crash wrapping put over the door by Autoglass) and am rather dismayed to see a load more places where the stones thrown by the scroats hit the surrounding paintwork and taken the paint off. Looks like I will have to get this sorted by the insurance after all so I'll get the seat covers replaced and the parcel shelf and any other items damaged (some burn marks on some trim parts). Sigh....£150 excess wasted because of some mindless idiots. Could think of lots of better causes for that!

What colour is the car? Would you not be better getting the door sprayed yourself rather than getting hit by the insurance?

Agree a door respray won't cost more the £250 and you'd have to pay the first £150 on insurance anyway.

They will make you pay that £100 back many times over, for renewal over the years.

My excess will be £150 for everything including the glass.

Glass on it's own was £70 excess then I pay another £80 for the rest.

I have protected no claims so that should lessen the blow come renewal time I hope.

Assume I could change insurers as well with my full no claims intact?

Anyway, I did ask Autoglass how much to change the glass without insurance being involved - it was £250!!!

Regardless of what you play they will all hit you as it will go from a glass only claim to a full on claim.

Protected no claims is just that... Protected NCD.

It will not stop your premiums going up or stop insurers refusing insurance based on a previous claim.

Whereabouts are you, someone might know a decent bodyshop.
