lack of comunication from dealer!!

Featured Replies

hi guys, can anyone clear something up for me.

i ordered an octy vrs on 14th sept and waiting.... & waiting.... & waiting for it to arrive, i'm going to be honest the guy at telfords has been Awful!! useless!!! first we were looking at stock list and first he wanted to give us ltd edition, we said no, he kept trying, not even listening to what we wanted, then got a list from him, all were diesel.... we didn't want diesel!

then we spec'd up a petrol dsg with multifunction steering wheel and a few extras, "he didn't hear me say dsg "???? but still spec'd steering wheel even when it said in black & white in brochure "(dsg only)" he quoted price for mine and new vrs which was ok after a little haggle then on next visit i enquired why there was no mention of dsg and he said i hadn't asked for it!!! so he started raising his voice and then i asked for the manager who was great and said a delivery of end of oct start of nov, he said i didn't have to deal with "x" again i could go straight to him, after no contact from the dealership i phoned and asked for the manager, the woman then told me he'd been sacked so was put onto "x" again who has made no effort to contact us, i phoned him last week and he said we were still on track for end of nov start of dec!! which i told him dec was never mentioned, another argument! here's my problem now, "x" has not settled on a figure on my car because of depreciation! he has never set a build, delivery date! i have paid deposit for a car i dont know precise figures & times on and am now really angry with "x" and dont like talking to him and have to try and pull info out of!

help me please before i scream!

Send your questions in written form to the dealer. Explain that good communication is important to you and you feel so far this has not been the case.

You don't have to like the person you are dealing with (it does help though) but both of you should be civil at all times. Raised voices are NOT a good thing.

In your letter to the dealer give them a reasonable time to respond to your questions. State what time you expect a reply within. 5 days would be reasonable. Keep copies of the letters, copy to Skoda UK. If you have paid deposit on Credit Card ask CC company for assistance.

The old manager may have been sacked but there will still be a dealer principle with whom you should be able to deal. Firm figures for trade in/ cost to change should have been established at point of order. This may be a failing on your part for going ahead with the order without all the details. Have you also considered the increase in VAT.

If at the end of the day you are not happy and do not want to have a working relationship with this dealer as far as servicing etc goes then look at the deal you set up and if the dealer has not kept to their side of the contract pull out of the deal and go elsewhere.

Try Consumer Direct for further advice.

Well my experience with a London dealer is only marginally better. Took the order; took the deposit and little since - not even any paperwork. If I'd not phoned them I would know nothing at all. As it is from order at start of September, they are still only telling me that end Nov for a build date. And given there has been a price increase, VAT change on 1 Jan looming and also the original deal was to end if not delivered by 31 Dec, it leaves a bad feeling and a concern.

What is also odd, is that Skoda come high in the ratings for their dealers - well so far I'd not rate them at all. Let's hope when we do get our cars that the Service Depts are far better than the sales dept.

As other say, you should have a spec in writing, some sort of order and an agreement of the p/x trading in. There should'nt be anything left to doubt or they could hold you to ransom when the car arrives.

Did you sign anything? Do you have anything in writing? Have you paid a deposit and i so, how?

:mad:ordered new vrs on sept 14th with a lot of problems... see http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/lack-comunication-dealer/161730/

was told october/november delivery, then an idiot said "we're on track, not a problem it will be November/December, i told him december was never mentioned!!

no contact at all from them since, i phoned today to find out how long and why no contact to be told it will be built first week in JANUARY. ABSOLUTE IDIOTS, i will not be buying another car from skoda ever again, which is a shame because i really rate their cars, i now understand why they can use vw group parts and sell cheaper than the others, it's because they employ numptys! i am so angry.

**SO ANGRY I SPELLED SKODA WRONG IN THE THREAD TITLE** thats made me laugh a little - what a plonker!!

me being stupid!!

Don't blame Skoda, it's not the manufacturers fault.

If anyone's to blame it's the sales team at the garage for leading you up the "proverbial" garden path, besides if you were in such a hurry & knowing what the orders for new cars have been going in like, why didn't you order earlier?

I'm sorry but; From what you've said here, you're also partially to blame for leaving it so late.

understand what your'e saying indy but too late for what???? i went into a showroom to buy a car, yes a desirable vrs, but not sept 14th for any reason! the garage told me a date, i said ok, they changed it, i said "erm........ ok" then now i phone to be told date is 4 months after original statement, i wasn't in a hurry, i was just purely, maybe stupidly, believing what i was being told! and if unfortunatley these are the guys skoda are making us deal with then skoda are to blame!!

I sympathise. The thing is that while the dealers may talk dates (and in the case of my order, I think they were being as accurate as they could be) the quantity of other orders, production at the factory, shipping / delivery, even the sales due to the scrappage deals are all factors beyond their control.

Now that is no excuse not to keep you informed of progress. And not taking note of exactly what you order. Though I have found that once the order is in then new customers get the attention. Only if you pester do sales people tell you what's happening (which is often that your car is still to be built or is stuck at a port waiting for a ferry). But order times seem to be like bits of string. There's no telling exactly how long they are.

'course since Skoda go on about 'happy drivers' and you clearly aren't, a letter can do no harm.

Can a mod merge these two threads before I reply?

Threads merged.

Let's hope when we do get our cars that the Service Depts are far better than the sales dept.

I wouldn't hold out any great hope, based on my experience.

in the past i've had very good service and quite bad service from skoda - telfords in carlisle to be precise! so lets see what happens! i know i will not be dealing with them after this!

incompetence to say the least.

i've heard good things about dumfries skoda which is nearest after telfords!

Whatever happens, you have a verbal agreement with this dealer which is legally binding in a court of law, made more concrete by the fact you've given them a deposit. You suggest you were quoted all the prices and you both agreed to them, so I wouldn't worry about the depreciation.

If they do play silly buggers with you just remind them of the verbal agreement, with the agreed delivery times and prices, and threaten to walk away and take them to court to retrieve your deposit.

If I was you I'd only be worrying about WHEN I was getting my nice, shiny new vRS, and forget the rest until it becomes a problem later, if at all. :D

If the price is right and the car's the right spec, walk away with your new car and never take your business there again, and try to warn as many others about them as you can.

Good luck with it

i aggree 100% jigger72 thats what i'm waiting for, at least i'll have a 2010 car, 2009 prices, i just hope these dsg problems i'm hearing about are sorted out

Hi NHKCHEF, if you browse the threads on here, particulary going back in sept, you'll see were ALL in the same boat waiting for cars. Ordering from another dealer would'nt of got you a car any sooner and they should have told you it would take longer.

If I was dealing with a salesman that wanted to sell me something I did'nt like, I'd have walked away. Maybe you should do the same and find another dealer??

Jigger a verbal agreement is about as water-tight as a sieve. Your word again theirs, the only time you maybe able to get it legally binding is if the conversation is recorded, as in a police interview room.

To get something to be 100% legally binding, it needs to be put in writing & signed by both parties (A contract)

If you have a written agreement (contract) as to when the car will arrive and they then find that the car will be delayed, then they should be required as a part of the contract to inform you of the delay & how long that delay is likely to be.

If you find that the delay is unacceptable then you need to come to an agreement that's acceptable to both parties, which is either termination of contract or financial recompense, which could be either monetary or in the form of accessories etc.

When you placed the order did you stipulate an exact date for delivery? Probably not.

If it's like the order form that I have, all it stipulates is a 12 week delivery timescale, nothing more, nothing less, we did come to an agreement that should the car be delayed by a substantial length of time then I should be notified. That hasn't happened, because I know that the car is in the UK on schedule.

In fact I've asked them to put delivery on hold, until December 2nd, as I'm tied up with work & other commitments until then, which has been agreed.

All I'm waiting for now is confirmation from SUK that ESP came as standard on my car as it has a DSG gearbox on it, that will then tell me if I have a £365 refund due to me, well it will be less as I've requested Mats, Mudflaps, Reg Transfer, MDI cable & Toolkit & Wheel Brace to be added.

I agree with Indiana, if you write on the invoice "Time is of the essense" and state the time quoted then you can get out of it. Otherwise you'll have to wait or ask for your deposit back and hope you get it.

You've not answered the q's above. So (AFAIK) we don't know IF you paid a deposit, signed anything or how you paid. As said before, walk away if your not happy, its not their fault its taking longer. And all dealers are just as bad, think yourself lucky a dealer even took your order (however you placed one) cos I gave up and used the Net.

If you expect delivery in Jan, check you won't be paying the extra 2.5%, if the dealer goes under, or the salesman leaves, do you have a reciept for the deposit?

Order form you got when you paid a deposit should show price breakdown, trade in value, extras ordered and expected delivery date. At least all was clear on mine when I paid my deposit for V50 in July. Communication was POOR with the Volvo dealer after placing the order. In fact you would have thought the e mail replies he sent me were written by a 3yr old.

Good luck with Skoda dealer in Dumfries. I e mailed 2 purchase enquiries in June and still have heared nothing from them.

In general poor sales and car dealers go hand in hand. Then they want the government to bail them out when there is a sales slump. With the ones I experienced in the summer 75% of them need to get off their backsides and work harder. Brand of car sold seemed irrelivant. Of the several I visited Volvo in Carlisle were the best along with Progress Skoda in Letchworth. Worst were Border cars in Dumfries and Toyota in Carlisle. Ended up buying from Volvo in Ayr the only good thing about them was the price.

yes i've paid deposit and have reciept, they have now said they will hold the current deal exactly as it stands until car arrives so no 2.5% extra, i understand the situation for them, it's out of the dealerships hands, it's the simple fact that the dealership have....

A. not listened from the begining to what we wanted eventually got an oct/nov delivery time

B. I started dealing directly with the branch manager as the salesman was the one not listening and was useless!

C. the branch manager was sacked so when i phoned i was put through to first salesman who said i was back dealing with him but he was not certain of the exact deal with the ex manager and said "we're still on track for nov/dec delivery (dec was never mentioned before but he casually slipped it in)

D. no contact at all to confirm any detail so I phoned today and he miraculously found the info to say it wasn't even being built till first week in jan.

i understand the system, it's just the unprofessional way i've been dealt with that has p***ed me off.

NHKChef, factory orders have always been 12+ weeks average, and any dealer would know this and should have told you this from the off.

You should have agreed a PX at the beginning. Now is a bit late to start haggling when they have the upper hand of an order form signed by you and your deposit.

They can easily hold you to ransom, given the terms of ordering will also likely say you'd be liable for any losses selling the car on as well.

As Indy says, why have you waited 2 months+ to realise no agreed PX?

  • Author

i think somewhere along the line there has been a confusion gadgetman, i have got a PX and as i said in the post above yours they are sticking to it without the extra 2.5%, it's not about the money bud, it's just the service and unprofessionalism i'm moaning about. sorry if i've jabbered on and confused issues

So you've got an agreed PX amount, wont pay the extra 2.5% vat increase.

So you're only beef is the dealer didnt say it'd be approx 12+ weeks?

Verbal agreement is as good as paper, as long as it is corroborated. This can either be by the two parties, or an independent third party.

  • Author

yeah mate, thats it, sounds pathetic doesn't it!! but honestly, you cant imagine the crap, the salesman not quoting dsg like i asked but did quote MFS which you cant get without dsg, the constant talking over me, telling us what we do and don't want without even asking, e.g.... his first way of coming to an aggreement with figures was him telling me i didn't need xenons or rear sensors which would save me money instead of working on figures. thats why i went to the manager, then he was sacked so got put back with 1st guy

So WTF did you deal with them and not walk?
