Finally, new alloys, opinions on lowering

Featured Replies

Finally got round to sorting some new alloys for my VRS Combi today. I am really pleased with how they look but think it sits a bit too high now.

The Skoda Eibach accessory springs lower the car by 20mm which I think will be enough but I am on the fence as to whether it needs doing or not.

I would love it slammed to the floor but need good load carrying ability and think the PI springs will be too low.

The rims are 8x18 AEZ Tacana's with 48 ET on Goodyear F1 Asyms 225/40/18 ( TUV certified for the car )

Yes it needs doing, looks like it is allergic to the floor at the mo.

looks good imo like to see it when its been lowered 20mm will look mint then

What are you doing with the old wheels? ;)

Cheers for feedback, I am going to order a set of Skoda Eibach's tomorrow as 70/30 in favour of lowering.

Old wheels are for sale - ebay item 180431003670 ;)

Mods - i am a freedom member so hope I am within rules to quote ebay item no.

Definately drop it, I have just lowered mine 30mm, it has made a significant difference to the handling, especially in the wet, far less roll in to corners and under hard accleration its virtually stopped wheel spin and torque steer. Dispite the pro's the ride is basically unchanged just a bit more stable. The picture below was taken the next day, and it has settle a bit since then.

Just put a bag of cement in the boot!

those wheels suit the car well - i like :-)

agree it needs to sit a little lower to be "just right"!

Ordered the Skoda Eibachs today (£138) and a mechanic I trust will fit them for a hundred notes.

Interesting Pagey that you've found power delivery has improved. I struggle to get the power down in 2nd even with the F1 Asyms on. They were fitted on my previous car, a 270bhp Focus St 225 and stopped wheel spin (in the dry anyway) but it's still there in the VRS, which is running a Superchips remap so around 200bhp.

Did you have to get the suspension / tracking realigned?

Cheers

That's a bloody good price all in with fitting - local dealer quoted me about £370 fitted, so £238 is a bargain

When it's done, can you let me know who your mechanic is please :D

Be quick if you want the Skoda springs - Skoda dealer called me back today to say that the Skoda Eibach's are no longer a manufactured part so once stocks are gone, there gone , ie I can't return them...

I can send pm you my mechanic's details if you want - he is in Huntingdon so not too far from Lincs...

I was quoted £380 from the tyre dealer I use  ... wish my hourly rate was that good...

My mechanic did the tracking/alignment at the time - which was included in the fitting price of £70 :D - but he said it was ok. I went outside the box and fitted PI springs, I know Eibachs seem to be the weapon of choice amongst Briskodians, but I got them for 105 sheets delivered and they are -30mm which is not an option from Eibach. If not for the fact I have used PI's in the past with out any problems I would have probably gone with the recommended....I suppose time will tell!

I have had an Augel Tuning custom remap, their figures estimate 230-240bhp with the addition of the EVOMS, which goes on at the weekend. The improvement really shows when swmbo drives it, before the drop on Kumho Ecsta is was ok, but now its excellent, and I'm on running on Falken 452 which apparently are a 'budget' tyre....

Another idea for you, colour coded grill and the Skoda OEM boot lip spoiler, both are subtle mods' but enchance the cars appearance big time!

Cheers for that. Will ask my mechanic to check the alignment just in case and will report back findings. I would like lower but have to remember I got the Skoda to be able to carry more and think I'll be pushing my luck with 8 inch rims ...

As for mod's like your grill  but also like the new badgeless grill from Superskoda (ie the one that means you can open the bonnet). and the milotec lower grill . Missus is in CZ at the mo so can get them imported via her suitcase. Should fit. She just doesn't know it yet ;)

Would love to oblige but the sh1t3 Ryanscare luggage allowance means I'll be hard pressed to get one grill back. Quoted 7 euro's at Superskoda's domestic shipping rate so should be worth it...

Driving over in summer, that will worry my wallet with all the bits I could get while I'm there.

7 euro's is a bargain, when I have gone to the checkout with stuff, I've been put off by the ridiculous delivery charges, did you contact them for that rate?

  • Author

Yep, wanted to confirm they'd deliver to our flat there with me being oversea's.

Hi

Had the Eibachs put on this morning. Not really had chance to drive it briskly but it definitely looks better.

I have attached some new pics to illustrate. Took about 3 hours and included having the alignment checked / adjusted.

We did however have to wait for the car in the garage to move itself first as the owner had disappeared, presumably on a mission ;):D

My mechanic is happy to fit supplied springs for other members for £100 inc alignment adjustment. He is in Huntingdon, Cambs. PM me for his details.

Are these pictures on the springs?
