Manually engage deadlocks?

Featured Replies

The drivers door on my car no longer locks with the remote central locking and I'm guessing the lock control mechanism has failed. All other doors are responding perfectly and the other functions on the drivers door also work ok (windows, electric mirrors etc). The red led does not light up or flash now either.

Currently I need to lock the drivers door using my key which does not engage the deadlock on that door which leaves the car very accessible to thiefs. Is it possible to engage the deadlocks in any other way than with the remote locking on the drivers door?

Also how easy is it to replace the lock mechanism? I'm happy enough at removing the door cards etc.

I believe the deadlock is activated when you lock the car.

If however you want to de-activate the deadlock, you would have to turn the key to the lock position twice in quick succession.

When locking the car with the key the deadlock in the drivers door is not activating, is there any special way you are meant to lock it with the key?

No, the deadlock should engage by default when using the key. If the deadlock is not engaging then there is a fault inside the door.

Normally when using the key, the deadlocks engage and to disable them you would use a second turn of the key.

I suspect that both of your problems are linked to the same fault.

It's slowly showing signs of life which makes me think it's water causing the issues again and the dry day today is drying up the connectors again. Last time this happened though more functions had stopped working rather than only the lock.

I think there is a control module for the C/L in the drivers door, maybe the door is full of water upto the module. Have you checked that the drain holes in the door are clear of obstructions?. Maybe worth removing the door trim and lookin at the inside looking for water.

Just spent about two hours trying to open a deadlocked rear nearside door, all the other doors are opening and closing except this one. Anyway in my quest for success I removed the front door card and took a look at the central control module to see if it there was water in the main wire harness plug. Pulled the main plug and it was well soaked with signs of shorting also. If your central locking is not working this is worth checking out, clean the male and female parts with contact cleaner and then give them a good spray with wd40 to keep future moisture out, this may bring you locks back to life. Unfortunately in my case it did not work so that’s why I am on here looking for more help.

Anybody got suggestions, think my wire harness or door lock motor is shot, managed to reef off the door card from inside but cannot see any mechanical way of opening the dam thing. Tried banging the door outside whilst pressing the cl button, no good. Does the wire harness plug in at the B pillar and is there any way to drive the lock motor using an independent power source.

Got it open in the end, managed to get one screw off the actuatorand and sprayed wd40 inside, gave the remote a few pops and tapped the back of the actuator, finaly the motor came back to life and released the deadlock.. Took the whole assembley out and resoldered the pins on the circuit board as per instructions on the vw vortex site . Back working for now. Best of luck with yours.
