Jacking points for a trolley jack

Featured Replies

A trolley jack with the standard disc at the contact point looks like it will screw up the ridge on the Octy's sills. I will fabricate a lifting block from a piece of solid wood and use a power saw to cut a 'sill channel' in it but was wondering if any one has other ideas for a jacking point and axle stand point.

I would never use a trolley jack under a sill on any car. I do feel that the Octavia is pretty feeble when it comes to suitable points to jack it up.

Jack it up under a suspension component - afterall they're designed to take the weight of the car.

Don't do it! The sills are fragile. Use the suspension bush mounts.

Or chassis legs, mere inches from the sills!

Sills are fine to jack on pretty much anything but VAG

Should do the trick

Thanks chaps!

Agree with that especially when I see that the o/s sill has been nicely chewed by previous owner or careless garage! :(

That was my target after seeing the chewed sills but I have just had a nice shiney new WALK fitted and was nervous of damaging it.

I did the same as you but decided to use the point that Damo refers to for the front (with a piece of wood as a cushion). As for the rear, another 'fabricated' bit of wood was used.

I also made the same piece of wood, only problem i sometimes find is, I cant get the jack and wood both under the car. depending on how the suspension settles its sometimes impossible to just get the jack under, could do with one of these

low profile jack, nice but not cheap

Soon as the car is up, axle stand under the suspension point shown above and back the jack off and use it as backup and the axle stand as the main support

Or the recent 'special' from Lidl for £15 which certainly seems capable

Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence

One step from lashing out at you

You want in to get under my skin

And call yourself a friend

I've got more friends like you

What do I do?
