glowplug light.....again !!

Featured Replies

Got the seemingly ubiquitous flashing glowplug light up again, coupled with inop cruise control and dim/flickering luggage compartment lights . Brake lights O.K., have had blown brake bulb filaments with this lamp flashing in the past ,accompanied with the classic bad earth sign of blackened bulb . Both stop/tail bulbs now changed for L.E.D. ones, and working correctly in brake/tail functions .All seems to point to a bad earth, but have checked the earth point in the N/S rear cubby-hole next to C.D. unit , and it is clean and secure . I would add that that the wiring under the tailgate aperture lower finishing panel has been spliced for a trailer connexion, using "Scothlocks", so does anyone know for sure if a bad connexion here , or on the towbar socket can give these symptoms , given that the original earth tags are all good and secure ? Any chance it may point to a definite cause if I get it fault scanned, or will it just come up with something non-specific like "engine electronics" or some such? May have a look at the contacts in the stalk switch, tho' that would'nt account for the flickering luggage area lamp......or would it?

If anyone has had similar to this , how did you get 'round it ? I use cruise a lot, and it's annoying to not have it !

Cheers to all,

Fatbloke-Dim.

P.S. , 'Bout time a Superb estate came along ,if they'd done that from day one , I might have been able to afford a used one by now !

Have you checked the wiring in the trailer socket? Any water ingress into the socket? I spliced my trailer connections in near to the CD changer (so they get wet when the wiper hose pops off!).

Cruise issues are often related to a dodgy brake pedal switch, so might be worth checking that is correctly mounted and working. If it is a double pole switch, then maybe only one side is working (ie. brake lights, but no feed for the CC).

Have you tried swapping the LED bulbs for normal filament type to see if this makes a difference?

sorry I've not been by to look at any responses to this query ,have been out the country for a spell or two, then me 'puter croaked and is still dead, then brakes failed and other stuff teamed up to tie me in bloody knots . Anyhoo.... the type of bulb has made no difference , but since the post I noticed there's no headlamp beam control motor operation, as well as inop cruise, and, possibly tellingly , the rear lights light up dim as soon as the ignition is turned on,ans tay on when th'engine is started, even with the light switch being at "off" .I spoke to a sparky with a view to him having a look , and told him that a neighbor had noticed the central locking chattering whilst I was away, and he said points to what he referred to a bsi unit, ie, body electrics control unit . Would this manifest itself like this ? Will it be worth getting it scanned for a fault code which may pinpoint the issue beyond reasonable doubt?

Bah !! Technology....it sucks ! And blows !!

How about replacing the Bodgelocks ;) with proper piggyback connectors?

Also, have you got the latest type brake light switch in there?

Well......

just dropped the car off for a scan , results of which are -coolant probe duff, knew that was ropey anyhoo ,brake light switch , that points to inop cruise methinks ,and , tellingly , rear tailgate lock mech not right , could well be water ingress as pointed out . It be getting fixed as of now , so big thanx to all for sage advice, youse wuz all right ! Well done ! Award yerselves a pint (own expense ,of course !! ) . ;)
