Should I touch a Roomster 3 with 61000 but only appears to have been serviced once?

Featured Replies

At £6995 the price looked reasonable for a 2.5 year old Roomster 3 with 61000 on an otherwise very clean car. Then I looked in the service book and could only find one service at 19000 now I'm worried about the damage that could have been done if that really is the case. Should I run a mile from this car?

Thanks

I wouldn't buy it!

the roomster has a 10K service interval, so it should have had 6 stamps in that time period and will shortly be due a cambelt change.

I'd want to know a lot more about it's service history TBH.

I would consider it if there were no stamps but receipts etc. supporting the history, otherwise I'd see what else I could get for the money.

There are a fair few on the Skoda Approved Used car locator for around that money/mileage

It's not cheap so I wouldn't bother.

It is outwardly a high-mileage car (25,000 miles per year) that has been neglected for the last 42,000 miles. I wouldn't buy it either. I would expect average mileage and FSH for £7,000.

Contact Skoda and or the supplying and servicing dealers for the history.

Could have been DIY serviced, not stamped by the dealer (trust me I have issues with Ford on the works car stamping the book). or indy serviced.

Personally I wouldnt by anything this new without full Skoda dealer stamped/backed history. Otherwise you could be stuck with a lemon.

Never buy a car without a checkable service history.

no id stay well clear imo look for summat with a better service history tbh

Andy...you don't say what engine it has. Is it petrol or diesel? This would be the clincher if it was me considering buying it. If it's diesel and it's been home diy serviced I wouldn't touch it especially if it's the 1.9TDI PD. If it's petrol and it's been diy serviced then I'd probably buy it if there's evidence of oil changes and nothing obviously wrong. You can beat the hell out of the dealer on price too with no stamps in the book. He knows the price is going to have to go down quite a bit. Don't forget you get some warranty from the dealer too. Do tell us what you decide to do.

By the way...the 1.9 TDI PD engine is brilliant. It just doesn't take well to home servicing if things are missed and or the wrong oil is used. It can get very very expensive if it aint done right! Same applies to the excellent 1.4TDI PD engine but it seems to be a little more robust if abused and not serviced properly for short periods.

If there is only one stamp in the book keep well away.
