Why I Like My Morris 1000

Featured Replies

I heard someone that I know say you could strip an old mini with only two sizes of (imperial) spanners.

And two sizes of hammer...

Oh and because there is naff all room under the bonnet you would also loose all the skin on your knuckles.

If it's like my old Metro, then when you lift the bonnet you know exactly what every pipe and wire does. The only microchip is the one in your stereo (if fitted) and/or your digital watch. Just how many computers is there in a modern car?

Except the suspension leaked and you drove everywhere at an angle, or level if you had one fat mate...

Remember mine was a bigger Metro not a mini, it had plenty of room. I would hate to work on my Fabia now.

Mine suspension did not lean, although I did once have it pumped up a bit (the garage said it was to do with my wheel alignment/geometry)

I think cjb is right, there are some large nuts i.e. hub nuts, crankshaft pulley nut, etc.

I think the toolkit for the Triumph Herald's I started with was 1/2 and 9/16 AF spanners and a screwdriver. You could take the car apart with them - and you needed to, often.

A friend of mine has a old 200 series volvo and there is enough space to stand in the engine bay as he once demonstrated.

One of my old metros used to leak constantly and I had to get the suspension pumped up every couple of months. Good for left hand bends not good for right hand ones though.

While I appreciate most modern cars are much safer than your average classic, some of the new features are just crazy. The Nissan GTR bonnet safety system for pedestrian safety being a prime example. One shot bonnet lifter rams and one shot safety ECU, that cost £3000+ to replace after the most minor of bumps.

I've just seen a thread on a GTR forum (probably where you saw it) and a very small low speed front end shunt caused, wait for it.... £11,000 worth of damage.

Sorry for going :offtopic:
