Bolero memory card

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere - I couldn't find it. Does the FL come with a memory card? I'm guessing not?

Correct, no memory card included.

I've got one of those PNY cards and I can't get my Bolero system to recognise it.

It just says processing on the screen & stays that way indefinitely.

The PC has done a full check & says the card is fine, it's formatted in FAT32 so it's the correct format.

I've got 2590 tracks on it and each artist has their own folder, within which each is an album folder, this shouldn't really make any difference. Should it?

I've not got quite as many tracks on my card but it takes about 45 secs from switch on to resuming media play and a similar amount of time moving up dirs to re-access each of the albums. The major difference though is that each album has its own directory and not one for each artist.

I'm sure I remember a thread a while back saying that it works a lot quicker if you just lump everything in the root of the SD card, and keep the folder depth to an absolute minimum. You should still get cataloguing by artist / album etc. as that index is built from the files' ID3 tags, not from the directory structure. Would be interested to hear if anyone could confirm?

Incidentally, this seems to be the exact opposite of my Dension Gateway which virtually grinds to a halt if you swap to a flat file/folder structure.

I have a 4gb sdhc card that worked OK, noticed though that it only showed about 1gb FAT on it so decised to reformat it to ntfs and put about 2gb of music on it! Bolero didnt recognise it so reformated to FAT32 and now it works? I had a look and cant see anything about different file formats making a difference?

Like I said mines formatted in FAT32, so is in the correct format, the card is a 16Gb PNY SDHC card, Class 4, so that's fine too.

But when I insert it, it just says "processing" and that's as far as it goes, it doesn't show any music at all! :(

I put the same set of tracks on a WD Passport drive there's 1146 different folders (Artists) and when I connect that via MDI, it finds that & plays it, just one problem there & the MIX function doesn't appear to be working. :swear:

I have one of the 16Gb PNY SD cards. Reads no problems but I only have 700 songs on mine (MP3 @ 320), I have found that since I loaded all onto root, no problems. Anyone knows of a way to get an order of tracks onto a SD card I am all ears brothers, nothing like listening to a Mettalica tune, then getting Kate Bush on next ! :p

The Bolero supports playlists (.m3u) so you could make them up and transfer them across just as you would an mp3.

As you've put all your files in the root (maybe only 4gb at the moment?) it'll only get worse for playing what you want as you add more though.

The solution the play all Metallica or all Kate Bush is to PUT THEM IN SEPERATE DIRECTORIES FOR EACH ALBUM and just play each album one at a time

The playlists should be able to sort out different songs from different albums/artists but isn't that getting a bit OTT?

John.

As I said to you last night, you should be able to load your SDHC card or HDD via MDI, press Mix and it'll do a random selection from all of the tracks on the card/HDD.

It doesn't, it's therefore not fit for purpose, due to the Boleros OS being not up to the job.

You wouldn't think much of an Ipod that offers you the shuffle function & doesn't shuffle the tracks randomly, would you.

Hi Warren, it seems that you're replying to your ICE thread here by mistake.

Having checked the 'mix' feature of the Bolero, it would seem that it plays all the tracks from one album before playing the next (maybe mixed) lot of tracks from a second album.

I don't think you can compare the Bolero 'mix' feature to the ipod shuffle feature though as they're not the same.

Mind you, at least you can plug in your ipod via the MDI and shuffle should work from that!

So what about those folk who haven't specified MDI because they haven't got an Ipod or External HDD, but want to transfer their music to a SDHC card & like me want a random selection of music?

Why should they be forced to listen to music sequentially?

Mix, means just that... Mix. My Golf's system used to do that if I inserted a MP3 CD, so why can VW/Skoda's Bolero, mix it up?

There must be a software fault.

I've also noticed that there's a button missing in the media setup menu, especially for those who have MDI & that's the PD button, so I'm now wondering if there's a batch of Bolero's which haven't been coded correctly.

Neither the Bolero, Columbus, Stream or Audience can random play across all folders only the one currently playing until its played all the tracks.

It which case I'd have to wait continuously for 6,95 days for it to do it.

Stream MP3 does this no problem. The mix mode changes each time you press the button from Off > Mix Track > Mix Folder > Off. Mix Folder plays randomly across different folders.

So why not Bolero, Columbus & Audience systems?

I think someone, somewhere within Skoda has made a :x up
